Toy storage...is IKEA the best option

I'm determined to get my children's rooms sorted when we move, so far our toy storage has been a bit haphazard and always looks a mess. I want the children to start looking after their belongings better but my 5 year old has told me he needs drawers like at school in order to tidy up! I do agree otherwise everything just ends up in one toy box or slung in the bottom of a basket, then we face the inevitable tip out everything approach when they are looking for something.

Are the ikea kids trofast the best option, it's just so bleeuggh!

But my priority is making sure all his little bits and pieces have a home rather than aesthetics, so if the consensus is that they are the most practical I'm keen, at least they aren't too pricey!

if anyone has any good toy storage ideas, in particular for small things, like trash packs, mutant mania etc which my son loves, id be keen to hear them.

My house is generally chaotic with stuff everywhere and it's stressing me out. I want organised chaotic at least!

Kallax shelves, the tubs are from B&Q. They are on wheels and stack - the kids love them.

Hey we have both! I love trofast for the elder ones. Great for lego and tiny models. Then kallax in the playroom for the little ones toys......jigsaws, big bits of plastic, , cars etc works really well. Also. Helps them to learn to tidy!

Morrisons are doing a similar set to trofast in white atm.

AndNow I looked at that but when I saw the £35 delivery charge I thought it was a tad steep!

kallax looks nicer BUT you can get tall trofast units with an absolutely tiny footprint - we couldn't find anything with a smaller footprint when sorting out the box room. So if space is an issue at all then trofast is the one.

We have had trofast but I didn't particularly like it - you can't stick labels to the plastic boxes - they just fall off. Also not a fan of the look. We have just put a wall of Ikea stuva with folja drawer and door fronts into the playroom. I love it. The door/drawer knobs come with coloured stickers you can write on (I used a white chalk pen). Everything is behind closed doors and it is all at kid height. We use the top of the units for displaying Lego creations. But I think my favourite bit of it is the little wardrobe at the end, where they put their school coats, shoes and bags. Before we got this furniture, they were all over the place and we could never find anything in the morning. I'm very happy with stuva.

We have this tower from the really useful box company (I got it in b&q for £35) this is used for lego storage - with bricks sorted by colour! It would be great for other little bits too.

I also have wicker baskets from ikea, the trunk type with a lid. And the toys are separated by type, so one for train set, one for transformers etc.

Depending on the type of bed you have under bed storage is great. We have those trays on wheels, you get a surprising amount in them. I like everything tucked out of sight!

Things like this are good for small bits like trash packs. I got this in Lidl for £2.50, it's double sided so holds a lot.

I also keep hold of ice cream tubs for storing little bits. They can then be slung in a big toy box without getting scattered everywhere.

We have Kallax with boxes for our 2yo. I think Trofast will be practical when she's a bit older and has lots of smaller toys but most of her toys at the moment are still quite big.
B&Q do some good toy storage, a bit like Kallax. Jojo's also have some lovely toy and book storage on their website but it's a bit more expensive.

We went with kallax and got drawers for some of the holes for the small stuff. Excuse the mess. It's a snow day here so I've been chaotic with keeping the kids occupied.

Kallax is much nicer than the specific kids storage. The storage boxes (called drona) are very cost effective and you can mix and match colours.

I have also managed to make ours look less blah by investing in some fancier boxes from Etsy.

We had GLTC toy storage which was at least triple the price and it fell apart!
