Just separated. New house. New home?

In past houses, it is the wood burner that has given me the sense of home. This luxury is currently beyond my finances.

You might have more responses in Chat, OP - I remember some really interesting threads on this subject in the past. I'd like to know too, as I've never really felt like I've successfully made anywhere feel homey!

I was in your situation - in my case it was happy kids! Also redecorating it the way I wanted, at least in lounge and kids rooms.

Hanging pictures or displaying photos

Personal items like ornaments that mean something to you...framed photos, pictures, things you have chosen because YOU like them. Rugs, soft furnishings, candles. Books you like. Books you want to read. Things that make you smile when you look at them. Soft lighting.

In my house seems to be mess.. Which you'll be thrilled to know is a fabulously easy style to achieve! The children will also love to muck in and help you get the look!!! Seriously though enjoy your new home wishing you lots of happiness!

Having your favourite mug in the cupboard.

Pictures and cushions to add detail and soften noise levels. Once I have a "spot" to sit in, I feel more relaxed. So maybe buying a comfy chair/sofa and a throw?

What TrustySnail said. We moved house last year and redecorated everywhere, new furniture etc. It was only when pictures were hung and the walls didn't look so bare that it started to feel like home. This along with framed photos, candles, and other bits that you like on display.
