Which are the nicest/best value?
It's for a special gift so I'm thinking high end.

White company?
Jo Malone?

TIA

Yankee gift set with Illuma lid and Wick trimmer.
Gorgeous.

Bejazzled · 05/11/2016 11:34

Try and get natural wax candles like soy (avoiding paraffin and wicks containing nasties) they are really bad for us.

I think Park and Soi are really good.

PhoenixJasmine · 05/11/2016 11:34

I'd be delighted with a candle from Jo Malone or Diptyique as a gift if they're budget appropriate, I buy Yankee for myself as standard for the house. Depends on individual budget and taste I guess

buckeejit · 05/11/2016 11:38

Jo Malone or white company, neom are nice & sometimes in tk maxx

mckenzie · 06/11/2016 19:48

Thanks guys.
Bejazzled, can you recommend any particular scents?
I like the lime and basil one from Jo Malone and I love patchouli.
Thanks again

Jo Malone Pomegranate or the Pear & Fresia ones are absolutely gorgeous!

fluffypigs · 06/11/2016 19:52

Diptyque roses is lovely! Jo Malone also very nice.

ggirl · 06/11/2016 19:54

St Eval candles are gorgeous here

MissBattleaxe · 06/11/2016 19:55

Go to TK Maxx. they often have Miller Harris candles and they smell amazing.

Soozikinzi · 06/11/2016 19:55

My DiL makes them and sells them on easy waxandwick uk they are very good ,all natural xx She sells a lot of the beeswax candles for that reason Smile

WhisperingLoudly · 06/11/2016 19:57

Diptyque is my favourite - I love tuberose but jo malone comes close second: dark amber and lily and velvet rose oud are lovely

NC1nightstand · 06/11/2016 20:00

Ooh don't want to derail this thread but while we're on the subject please can any of you recommend any candles that really do scent the house or at least the room. I have spent various amounts and been really disappointed. Today bought a wax lyrical one that smells gorgeous unlit but doesn't really waft through the house.

70ontheinside · 06/11/2016 20:09

Neom for very special, Potters Crouch for special but slightly more purse friendly.

LadyPenelope68 · 06/11/2016 20:13

I find wax melts give a much better scent than a lot of the candles NC1.

Piscivorus · 06/11/2016 20:17

I have just had some Melt candles which have been gorgeous and you can use any leftover wax in a burner afterwards.

NoelHeadbands · 06/11/2016 20:18

Not for gifts, but Woodwick candles give the best scent throw out than anything else I think.

A woodwick burning in the hall will scent the whole house through.

LBOCS2 · 06/11/2016 20:21

Jo Malone and white company are great for scent throw. I particularly like nectarine and honey by jo Malone and white tea and mint by White Company - or the Winter one, if it's seasonally appropriate.

TheoriginalLEM · 06/11/2016 20:27

don't candles give off more carcinogens than cigarettes? sure i read that somewhere so it put me off

AppleSnow · 06/11/2016 20:36

Another vote for St Eval - Bay and Rosemary in particular

Bejazzled · 06/11/2016 23:17

Yes Lem it's the paraffin based wax that's the worst offender.
If you make sure and buy soy or vegetable wax, I think they are ok.
They are much more expensive though.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 06/11/2016 23:55

Another vote for Woodwick here, gorgeous smells with good strength. Love the gentle crackling sound they make too.

shovetheholly · 07/11/2016 08:10

TK Maxx are bargainous. But if you want something fancier, Diptyque are lovely.

wiltedcabbage · 07/11/2016 10:16

I read that JM and Diptyque are 100% paraffin - so I've stopped buying them. I was also really disappointed with my last JM one which barely scented the room.
My friend bought me a Bog Standard one in the 'Linen' smell recently and I've been so impressed. It fills our big kitchen/living area after just 30 minutes or so and they're really well priced.

shovetheholly · 07/11/2016 11:26

I know it sounds strange, but Japanese incense sticks are amazing. They are nothing, repeat nothing, like the patchouli scented nightmares that used to honk out the road outside goth shops in the 1990s. The smell is really subtle. I think the Esteban ones might be a Euro version. I find they really make the whole house smell nice, whereas candles will only really scent part of a room.

SloanePeterson · 07/11/2016 11:29

Neon are lovely. We stayed at a very posh hotel in London that had them burning in all the communal areas. I buy them in TK Maxx at a hefty discount. I have a bluebell, rose and something else one burning now (currently trapped under a sleeping poorly 4 yo so can't check) and it makes the whole house smell lovely. I find Yankee very artificial and cloying.
