Table dilemma

Have renovated our ground floor & have lovely new wood flooring but I feel it's clashing with oak table & chairs. No money left for new furniture. Thinking of trying to find new oil cloth but want something edgy rather than my current spotty one (if you can use the word edgy when referring to oilclothConfused). Also need to get chair pads recovered.

Any ideas also no these lines or maybe something random like getting table top zinc covered?

I think it is the back of the unit tipping it over the edge too.

I have similar table and floor but, instead of the board backing, mine is next to an island with painted cupboard doors and it doesn't look too woody at all

I think the wood board isn't quite in keeping with the rest of your lovely kitchen. Perhaps a step too 'wannabe industrial'?

Why don't you paint that in a funky colour chalk paint and use it for messages?

There are some modern oilcloth designs here.

Pantsalive · 13/10/2016 14:25

And some other tablecloths here

We have a similar issue. After Christmas, we are getting new chairs from John Lewis. I can't link (on iPad and no idea how to) but they are only £35 each, modern, come in white, green, light blue (and wood effect, but you dont want that). They get good reviews too. They would add a modern feel to the room without compromising the lovely table. (That's what we, with our totally non-qualified interior designer hat in hope for our kitchen)

How about a runner rather than a tablecloth? Sophie Allport does oilcloth by the meter but they are more country kitcheny than edgey.

I agree with other posters, it is the chipboard which lets the room down. Your kitchen seems to be a more country style so imo clad the back of the breakfast bar with tounge and groove painted the same as the units. I would the dress the table with a brighter oilcloth to tone with curtains or blinds. It is a lovely room btw.

We were in a similar situation and got the chairs and table legs painted

I like it all as it is!

allegretto · 17/10/2016 16:47

I'm guessing the chipboard isn't finished actually.

OhTheRoses · 17/10/2016 16:51

I think they look fine. We have mahogany on an oak floor at present and it looks awful. A runner would break it up. Oilcloth works brilliantly if you gave littlies. Some nice designs on the skandi site.

Your table is nice quality wood, please don't paint itm

You need a rug underneath - something like this if you like the chevrons? Also agree that chipboard definitely needs to be covered up.

langlandgirl · 22/10/2016 14:13

where is that rug from Margot?
