Head wrecked choosing paint colour

We did a biggish refurb lately & now need to redecorate practically all of our house.

My head is wrecked trying to choose paint colours. I'm close to repainting the previous colours just so I'm done with it! My favourite ever was this colour in my sitting room but it seems very out of fashion now.

I'm trying to like this new grey thing, but I don't. I live in Ireland, where the sky is varying shades of grey 75% of the year, so I don't think I need it on my walls. I gravitate to sage greens/duck egg blues but I'm concerned they're a little dated now. That was all very 2000's wasn't it?

It's so unclear which undertones go together! Im bankrupting myself buying tester pots

Are there any tricks to choosing paint colours & how to get the right undertone?

I am also in ireland and have chosen dapple grey by Dulux for my kitchen.

It looks white when you re putting it on but actually its a really light soft bluey grey. Apparently grey works really well if you can see grass/foliage from the window of the room.
i think it looks fab with white skirting and doorframes

I love my grey walls with a slight green to it- I used dulux dusted moss 3. Photo against pure white woodwork for comparison

I live in the middle of the Irish Sea so I get the no grey thing, but we have oak floor so that warms it up. I couldn't see the link of your favourite colour sorry

Our problems with finding grey paint have revolved around avoiding the ones that are essentially lilac. Too many of them are once you put them on the wall.

Definitely. I once used perfectly taupe, and that was def lilac. I have timeless in the rest of the house (unoriginal me!) but it's a great neutral. Very pale cream colour.

Even if there isn't any hint of lilac on the paint chart, so often you get home with the tester pot and it's yet another bloody shade of lilac.

I guess other people must really like lilac.

We just had the hall painted in dulux polished pebble, which is a very light grey.

Tbh, I like greens/teals. Our living room is a lovely real shade (weirdly called sky blue by dulux) that gets compliments from everyone.

Also in Ireland and head wrecked with paint colours. Also would like to avoid lilac.

I can't even decide what colour - let alone which of the 1,000,000,000,001 shades of the colour once decided.

I am planning on painting our chimney breast a light/sage green type colour at the weekend. Didn't realise it was out of fashion now I couldn't see the colour you linked in your op though, any chance you could re post?

Our current house has only ever had the walls painted ivory creme. I like it, and it works with all my colours. Who cares about 'fashion' colours, for clothes, never mind the house.

I could have written your post op! Also in Ireland, not mad about greys either. After much, much deliberation I've decided (I think) to go for a navy feature wall (dulux sapphire salute) with a biscuity colour for the other walls, a massive mirror on the feature wall. Hall will be crown Milltown sand, haven't decided on bathroom yet. I can't think about paint anymore, it hurts my head!!'

We've just done a large area in Archive by Farrow & Ball, which is a warm milky caramel colour. The decorator said it was surprisingly nice on our walls.

Do one room in your favourite colour - who cares? Or how about Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Crispy Crumble for ?updated similar ideas

I like the idea of navy with the biscuity colour.

We have decided tester pots depend too much on the current colour of the walls, so we are trying to be a bit braver and go more from chart to whole room without a gazillion testers. I painted one room Overtly Olive (dulux) recently and I wasn't at all sure from the tester, but it was lovely when all done.

I agree. Paint it whatever colour you like. It makes no difference if grey is more fashionable or not. It's your walls.

If you love that colour, then use it.

Grey's been around for a while now, it'll go out of fashion at some point and you'll be ahead of the next trend!

However I'm having similar trouble making decisions on our hall and playroom. I'm a bit over beige, I fancy grey carpets but then what colour for the walls? And DH and I are struggling to agree which makes it twice as hard.

I just did my living room in mellow sage (crown) as a feature wall with timeless (colour matched from dulux) on other walls - the sage is set off lovely with brilliant white woodwork and fire surround...

Decorator said grey is very in but just go with what is pleasing to your eyes

Thanks! I've finally made a choice, Nordic White from Colourtrend which is a taupe with a little green in it, and spinifex which deeper version and quite similar. These will be in adjoining rooms. My kitchen colour narrowed it down for me. I was in one of my pilgrimages to the paint shop & met a colour specialist who helped a lot. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

I'm considering a similar colour but I can't figure out what carpet colour would work.

Hi, the kitchen cabinets are another Colourtrend shade called warm cream. According to the specialist, that shade has quite a bit of lemon in it? News to me, I thought it was just a cream colour...

Anyway she pointed out the 'matching' options & sent me off with more tester pots. I'm decorating 3 adjoining rooms so I wanted them to be tonal.

Started prepping walls today, have to do the ceiling too

Lemon in cream? Who knew? Maybe I need a colour specialist. Thanks and good luck with it.
