How to get rid of gloss paint smell

Absolutely stinking the house out since yesterday! I have 21 more doors and numerous radiators to do over the next few days but the smell from one door is stifling. Dd and myself had a terrible headache last night from the fumes and with having asthma it's not great. I can't see any tips after googling apart from a cut onion which I did and hasn't worked. We will knocked out by the fumes after all the painting that needs doing! Any tips and I have of course had doors and windows open.

Why are you using gloss still?

I would use wood paint on the doors and radiator paint on the radiators. There's no need to use gloss in 2016

OP I know the struggle I have been painting our skirting boards with gloss paint recently and the smell seemed to last forever. You need to get a good airflow through the house with windows open. I also tried a bowl of vinegar and that helped a bit.

No it's not. Gloss can go on wood, but it's not wood paint. Wood paint you can have in Matt or satin finish, and it dries in 2 hrs.

Gloss is super shiny, super thick, and takes a good 24 hrs to dry. And stinks

Burning a candle is supposed to help.

Gloss is oil based, wood paint is water based

Cut an onion in half and leave on the floor of the room. Stinks of onion but absorbs the gloss smell and the onion pong goes v fast once you throw them away.

I hate the smell of gloss paint so I always use satinwood. It's perhaps not as hardwearing as gloss but doesn't stink, and I can wash the brushes in soapy water instead of white spirit which I also hate and would throw brushes away rather than use it

I forgot about burning a candle. I think that one helped most.

Gloss paint can be water based, not necessarily oil based at all.

OP are you using a low volatility water based gloss? If not, that is your first port of call.

My gran used to leave a bowl of milk out to absorb smells. No idea if there's any truth to it though.

I do prefer the look of gloss and looks great once it's done. Will try out your tips thanks guys the candle might help

Tried the cut onions when we painted our hallway, but it didn't seem to help.
And a delivery man who came to the door said that he just couldn't leave without asking why they were there.
