Loft bedrooms - carpet?

We have two bedrooms in our newly finished loft conversion. I have always dreamed of wood flooring but have heard that it's a) noisy for downstairs rooms and b) more expensive than a mid range carpet due to fitting costs. We have two very active toddlers. Would you carpet loft bedrooms? If so, would you use wool / polypropylene or a mix? I have heard that grey carpets are the 'new beige' - I prefer beige but don't want it to date too quickly. Advice please!

Interesting. We are off to carpet shops today to have a look for the same situation, attic carpet. If you google 'what carpet mumsnet' there's a really good thread with a link to another thread by tiggy which gives some great advice. My take on it is 80/20 wool mix is good & buy the best underlay you can afford. Hopefully you'll find it and get some good advice there. 100% wool carpets are supposed to be a bugger to clean there's any spills so I'm ruling that out.

We have ruled out a wooden floor for noise issues.

I would put wood tbh. The wood will last from toddlers until they leave home. Carpet will need replacing every few years

If you put proper noise insulation boards underneath it should be even quieter than carpet.

Add rugs for comfort next to beds

Carpet will last a long time in bedrooms. They are not high traffic areas. If you go for an 80:20 wool mix it will be hard wearing.

We have carpet in our loft bedroom. It's my daughters room and sound insulation was the main reasoning. We bought a small hoover to keep up there as it has a very narrow staircase that it is tricky to climb up whilst carrying items!

We have the loft room and wood floors. Without shoes there is hardly any noise. However it's bloody dusty.

It's not the show issue, it's more kids over time with pens, being sick, spilt food or drink ( teenagers) etc
