flooring

Hi all,
I'm getting an extension which will give us a room with bifolds onto garden it will be a family room so tv, sofa and ALL the kids toys (aged 5, 3 & 9 months!). I can't decide on floor. Carpet is no go because of kids spillage and also walking mud in, karndean I've been disappointed with in other rooms and expensive for kids to "scribble" on, Tiles that will be too hard for falling kids. So am I left just with laminate/wood??

Any other thoughts?

Bamboo wood flooring has proved very robust in our home. There is not such a wide choice as there is for wood though.

We have real oak with a very muddy dog and it's fab. Don't get walnut or a dark wood though as scratches show v easily and it looks awful after a while

I have quickstep laminate which dd age 4 has dropped juice, food, paint on and rode her baby bike around on and it is as good as new.

Maybe not what you want but there is a quick step floor which looks like tiles which may be worth looking at.

We are mid building stage of a similar room and are going for a karndean floor. Our kitchen diner used to have antico which is similar product. Look of wood but less effort to keep nice!

I know you mentioned tiles are too hard but long term I think they are the best option. We got large square glossy cream tiles in ours and surprisingly copes well with every mess possible (2 kids and a dog).

You could add a large rug for a while to make a little softer? Anything that isn't carpet will be hard I guess. I just think in a years time your wee one will almost be 2 and steady on their feet :)
