Ceiling light advice please

Hi there,
I moved to a new place a couple of months ago and there is no main ceiling light in the front room! I want to get one fitted but have no idea how to begin. I know I will need an electrician to do the work but can anyone recommend a good place to buy the light from as I have no idea. I had a look online and lots of places seem to sell them but I don't know about quality - I want something that will look good (chandelier style I was thinking) and will last.
Any advice and/or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Try B&Q, IKEA, John Lewis, BHS (while they are still around), etc. and pick something you like and that fits your budget. For a central pendant light I would also check how easy it is to change a bulb - some are more fiddly than others.

I second wowfudge bhs suggestion they do really good quality light fittings, also check out Laura Ashley they have some really nice lights, good reductions in the sale.

Is there a wire there but no fitting or literally nothing? If there is nothing at all then it can be quite a tricky job to put one in - ideal way to do it is to take the floor up in the room above and lay the wiring that way, but that's not possible if you have fitted carpet or tiles above that room.
As regards fittings - agree with the list above, also Made.com, Next, Notonthehighstreet, Jim Lawrence, Heals (depending on your budget)

I remember seeing some DIY stuff on Amazon. But again, all you get is a detailed set of instructions on how to do it yourself. If there is wiring involved, you might have to call an electrician.
