Any chance this might cover the dreadful artex swirls ?

Reviews seem mixed .I can't afford a plasterer .

Very much doubt it. It's for slightly uneven surfaces in my experience

I rather suspected that doowhop .

Just had Artex ceiling 11x12 plastered. I cleared up to keep cost down, price was £100.

Mine is over a stairwell so no doubt would be tricky to access .Plus every single workman in the world sees me coming and overcharges me .And I always cough up because I think ,well they have to cover holidays ,sickness ,dull periods ,overheads etc .

Just a bit tired of it all at the moment ,and cross with myself . Hence looking to rely on my own work .

We've tried it in the past and it was dreadful. Much better to save up and get it skimmed. But I feel your pain - we can't afford to cover the artex in our room yet and I wake up every day hating it!

Mmm ,I fear if I give it a go it might end up looking worse .But my friend who's helping me is very keen to try it .

Though she does say that maybe if I wait long enough it'll come back into fashion

No experience on the paint A Plasterer in London costs around £150-£180 for a good one a day plus materials. Or a good Plasterer and an apprentice might be £300 a day but they can get job done faster as one is mixing (good for large areas). It sounds as though it could be a one day job? Try and get a specialist Plasterer rather than a builder / decorator who dabbles as you may end up wasting your money as we have.

My Dh has used ex-tex. You paint it on, leave it and the artex becouse soft again so you can scrape it off without dust. It was on the walls even. A £60 pot has done the whole room 4×3 meters.

Please be careful though as artex can have asbestos in it, and shouldn't be drilled or (dry) scraped.
I have to be honest, the mention of asbestol got me a bit paranoid and would have prefered skimming the whole lot for peace of mind.

I just had our artex ceilings skimmed - it cost about £100 per room. (SE but non-London prices) They did the bit over the stairwell too. Messy job but it was quick and looks fantastic.

Our shower has just stopped working ,the roof needs fixing and apparently the root filling I need to cure my toothache is too complicated and needs referral to a specialist and will cost £700 + £300 for a crown .

So....the walls are going to have to draw the eye away from the ceiling !
