surfaces to go with an oak kitchen

Hi all,

I am having a dilemma, we are renovating the kitchen at the moment and I do not know what colour surfaces to put with the cabinets. We are going for the Tewkesbury light oak from Howdens, I would have preferred a slightly darker colour but they no longer stock it!

Was thinking of something like this for the floor

I would like a lighter colour surface in granite as I don't really like the black so much but just can't seem to find one! Any suggestions are very welcome :)

it's a good idea to keep the work tops and floor in a similar palette , it makes the room open up.

I think a darker colour might look better as you are risking it all looking a bit beige- the floor and cabinets are a lovely warm colour but are fairly similar.

I am not a fan of black work tops but you could choose a dark grey instead. A 'slate' colour look might look good. What about honed slate?

Alternatively there are millions of amazing granites about but you need to go to a specialist stone/granite supplier rather than using the standard types of granite that kitchen suppliers supply. If you want even more choice then you could even go to a granite importer - it can be a cheap option too.

I used a company called Pisani and a local stonemasons. I got a stunning granite worktop for the price of a bog standard one had I bought it from a kitchen company. It was a bit more work as I had to visit the importer but the result was worth it for me.

I also think a white/slight cream worktop might look ok - I'd have to see it in real life though.

Thank you, I'm not a fan of the copper as I think it will tarnish quite easily. I really like the honey yellow worktops but am concerned about being very beige, so I could go a bit darker on the surface but I really dislike the black/grey.

I hate all of this, I'm terrible with design! We are having an extension across the back of the house for a new kitchen/diner so everything has to be picked. I really wish there was a budget for a designer. Everyone has been saying how much fun doing it all is, but I'd rather be knocking a wall down than looking at colour samples!

How about a white corian type surface if you don't want a dark colour? Or a white-grey marble? Have a look at the posh kitchen companies' websites for ideas.

We used Pisani too! What colour did you go for? We had Cosmic Black, which is black with pale grey and warm brown swirls.
