Any ideas folks? I've got someone coming to look at it and don't have a clue what a reasonable quote would be!

Wow, the builder wasn't hanging about, they only gave you the quote yesterday didn't they? Is it in the skip? Did it fall apart? was it an electric fire in there?

hilbil21 · 09/12/2015 17:25

The builder is doing a lot of outside work just now which keeps getting rained off so he could fit me in. My mum just had an electric fire on the hearth and the opening of the fireplace was boarded up previously. Here is a work in progress photo... Quite messy lol x

Looks better already Grin

VulcanWoman · 09/12/2015 18:11

Dusty dusty, will be worth it all in the end!

SoupDragon · 09/12/2015 18:32

Infinitely better :)

Although I do think you need to put a fireplace back. I think rooms that were designed to have fireplaces look sad and odd without them.

Toraleistripe · 09/12/2015 19:10

Yeah put a nice fake victorian one on......Confused

I am a big believer in original features. If you don't like them fine but don't replace with some kind of repro job.

I have a 30s semi, with original fireplaces too. It all works.

Each to their own I guess.

PrimalLass · 09/12/2015 19:19

People shouldn't have to live with things in their home that they don't like. She could easily get a far nicer 1930s fireplace to replace that one.

SoupDragon · 09/12/2015 19:26

Exactly. Also, there are plenty of styles that are sympathetic to a 1930s style. Only one person mentioned fake Victorian fireplaces...

Toraleistripe · 09/12/2015 20:36

You're right. I'm just in a bad mood. Ignore me.

hilbil21 · 09/12/2015 21:53

I'm going to put a fireplace back I think. Not decided what era it will be from yet mind you lol x
