Furnishing a long thin living room

Thoughts please? The room is 6.42m x 3.83m (21'1" x 12'7") with a fireplace almost exactly halfway along one of the long walls.

I really want to make the fireplace the focal point of the room.

There are also 2 doors just to complicate things, one on the wall opposite the fireplace (this is the way in, if you like) but more towards one end of that wall. The other leads to the study and is on the same wall as the fireplace at the far end. (this could possibly be moved to be opposite the other door, which I think might work better?) Does that make sense?

Oh and there are windows at either end. A big picture window at the front (near the door in) and patio doors at the back (near the door to the study)

How would you tackle this?

That's harder than it sounds. I was going to suggest two sofas at right angles to the fireplace, facing each other with a coffee table between, but presumably you want a TV area in there too?

To avoid it feeling like a corridor, I'd maybe get an L shaped or modular sofa to wrap around one corner, with TV in the facing corner - around the front window?

Then two chairs and coffee table grouped around the fireplace with a side table for lamps, photos etc.

If you need to eat in there too you could put a slimline dining table in the area by the back window, but widthways to the room, to avoid the corridor look. If not, I'd make that an area for storage - sideboards, shelves or dressers depending on your taste, to hide away toys and games, for books and music systems etc.

Would not move the door as then you would have a through corridor for one end of the room.

We have similar shape room but no fireplace, which might mean my solution would not work. My room has a dining half and a playroom half so more like 2 squares than one long room. If you need a dining area then you can use the dead space around the door for this.
