Are they any good?

I spent £2.5k on a sofa from John Lewis two years ago. The dcs have trashed it. I was foolish to spend that on a sofa.

I will never spend that kind of money on a sofa again whilst I've got children.

So what are my stylish budget alternatives? I like classic styles rather than modern square styles. Sofa beds too.

I can't vouch for the long term durability as we've only had it two weeks, but we have the 3-seater stockesund which looks quite traditional rather than ultra modern. It seemed very well constructed when I was putting it together and it is certainly very comfortable. I really like the fact that the covers are machine washable and you can but another set for about £150.

For £525 I think it was really good value.

We have this

We had a JL leather one for less than 10 years which went all saggy etc even though I don't allow jumping etc

this one is more trad - again comes iwth washable covers

We have had a 2 seater ektorp for 12 years, three covers later it is still going strong. Highly recommended!

We've had the kivik for a year and a half and it's still in really good nick. For the price its definately worth it, I don't expect it to last a lifetime but we will get a good few years out of it still.

We have a 2 seater ektorp in the family room that's so far withstood 2 years of abuse (lego/starwars battles, , turning into dens, lying/sitting on anywhere but the seats etc)
It's not the same as my multiyork sofa in the living room but as it was a fraction of the price and was easy to buy a spare set of covers for without remortgaging our house it's a bloody good deal.

Why don't you look on Gumtree for a preloved John Lewis/Laura Ashley/Sofa Workshop sofa instead?
IKEA sofa are fine but they don't usually have a classic look.

We have had the Kivik for about 6 years. We have 2 young children and a dog, it gets all sorts of abuse and is still in good condition.

We've had the Tidafors for three years and it's still perfect.

Kids room has two Klippans which are older but still going strong. I think I'd like new covers for them though just to brighten up the room.

I like IKEA furniture, we do seem to have quite a bit of it. We've usually found the affordable solution to what we need there and it lasts well.

We've got a kivik, chosen because we have a 3 year old and a 2 month old and it has removable covers. Really pleased with it seeing as it was only £500.
