So, is painted wood like SO last year?

I have quite a bit of wooden furniture. I don't know whether to paint it or sand it down and oil it, or paint parts of it...I just don't know.

I do know that i don't want to be doing anything to it again for around 10 years.

What's the MN consensus?

I work in paint/diy..... Both are popular. Painting furniture is still very much a thing tho. Older customers prefer real wood and are happy to commit to all the sanding etc involved

Some of the stuff is not that nice and tbh would be easier to paint it up! What paint do you recommend.

Rustoleum furniture paint is pretty good and the made by me range by dulux. I know one 'upcycler' who uses garden paint. Some of the tester pots are quite large and a little goes a long way. It's durable too, you just have to sand first and then make sure it's dry and clean.

I think that shabby chic, distressed look has had its day (or maybe that's my wishful thinking). I think both painted and natural wood are good - I have a mix of both. If some of it isn't that nice then I would definitely paint it. I use Rust-Oleum, Annie Sloan or Habitat multi surface paint.

Thanks....I'm looking forward to having a garage in which to do all this painting! Less than a month. Agree with distressed. I wasn't planning that, but saw someone who had painted their dining chairs and I'd like to do mine a neon yellow. Maybe keep the table wood and paint the chairs as they really need something and the table is old (1906) so I don't want to change it too much. Do you primer as well?

In terms of wood, do you think an oil is better than varnish?
