Please can you tell me what you think of this quote for curtains and blinds?

I have never bought custom made blinds or curtains before, so just want to check if this is super expensive or not. One pair of eyelet curtains 1.5m wide, for french doors, 220cm drop, silver pole, one dress roman blind 120cm wide, plus track and winder. Lining included. Quote is £1,100 (incl fabric which is £40 per metre).
Thank you!

Sounds like John Lewis prices to me.

Holy crap that's expensive! Can you find a 'local woman' who sews and get a pole from b&q?

Also are they providing the fabric as you may be able to source it yourself online much cheaper.

I wouldn't pay half that but then I would use our local dressmaker/sewing person.

Thank you very much. It is a local business, but think it is pretty pricey. I will get another quote ;)

We have got a massive window about 3
M x 5 m .we went with Next in the end . They are beautifully made and they offer a measuring service for free .. They were £900 in total .. For blinds we went with a local lady and had wooden blinds with tape which were around £100 each fitted .

As a curtain maker that sounds very reasonable to me, especially as it includes fabric at £40 per metre.

'Local women who sew' still need to earn a living! If I were making them they'd be a lot better made than those from Next - all hand made and proper rings attached- not on tapes - and they are not cheap either.

Mine are beautifully made actually .. I know a lot about curtains as I'm an ex dry cleaner and I've seen some shoddy work from local seam stresses .. It includes material and thermal lining ... They don't make them themselves , they outsource to a local company who was very strict about how his products are made and even came and hung them himself !!

The majority of that quote is fabric I think. I'm hopeless at working things out and obviously don't know the pattern repeat but surely there must be 15m odd of fabric in there, assuming you are having generous curtains and the drop of the blind is similar? So £600 plus the cost of lining which could be £50-£100 if you are having blackout and the pole and blind hardware. I don't think that actually leaves a huge amount for the cost of making up and fitting so I do think it's a fair quote.

The easiest way to reduce the cost is obviously to go for a cheaper fabric. I've bought remnants of £50 a metre fabric before for £10 a metre and had that made up into curtains, but obviously when you need so much fabric then, by definition, it's unlikely you'll get a remnant.
