Sandpits on a terrace (stone floor)

Sorry if this isn't the right section but I couldn't find an obvious 'fit'
Have been looking for a sandpit for my kids to put on a stone terrace. Ideally I'd like a wooden one but it seems that they all are open at the bottom and just have a ground sheet. OH says that these are only suitable for use on grass and that the sand will get soggy and horrible if it is placed on a hard floor as any water that gets in won't be able to run off given that the floor underneath won't be permeable. Has anyone used a wooden sand pit on a hard floor surface or am I just going to have to live with a giant piece of plastic in an animal shape instead? Thanks

Squires garden centre sells a sandpit table. We lined ours with plastic and it can be used for sand or soil/ plants. I can't link on the tablet but they're stained red or blue and are about £25.

Thanks for that - I had looked at sandpit tables which I think might be the only other option but I'm keen to have something on the floor if possible as it will work better I think and stop my 2 year old just emptying it all on the floor- plus would rather avoid anything she could monkey around on / fall off whilst playing

Here you go. My daughter is 19 months and manages fine. Sand gets everywhere regardless!

We made a wooden sandpit with a leftover rafter from our house build. We sanded it, painted with outdoor shed paint, bolted together and lined with garden weed suppressant liner - breathable so water could pass through. We had it on our stone patio for 6 years with no problems. Replaced the lining once and new sand every 2 years. Huge hit with all the kids as around six 2 year olds could get in together as it was so big!!!

just made my dcs a sandpit big enough for both of them so they wouldn't fight, out of an old pine coffee table top, screwed on some tall sides, and made a lid.

Thank you

Build your own and make sure you get a lid on hinges as cats do try use them as giant litter boxes!
