How much did your new bathroom cost

Ruperta · 19/04/2015 20:14

Just wondering the average price for a new bathroom. Ours is quite small but I can't wait to change it. We have aves up about £2600 so far so just wondering how much more we are looking at.

It would be great if I could get an idea of furniture/tiles & installation cost.

What is the £2600 for so far?

Monica101 · 21/04/2015 08:19

Mine was quite a basic renovation and it cost 6.5k for a medium sized room.

A lot of that was labour so if you can do some of it yourself you will save a lot.

SquidgyMaltLoaf · 21/04/2015 22:48

Ours was just over £4k which included ripping out, smashing up cast iron bath, replastering (they took it right back to the lath), fixtures, fittings, electric shower and tiling (flooring extra). That was our cheapest quote.

mandy214 · 22/04/2015 09:26

As others have said, it depends on what that includes.

I would always recommend shopping around for fittings, and paying for labour separately.

We did a large bathroom (about 12' x 12'), with top of the range fittings (large free standing bath, wall mounted taps, separate shower with rainfall shower, sit-on basin with oak plinth etc, fully tiled (floor to ceiling) and all the plumbing was re-arranged as it was a different position than previous fittings - for about £5k. I bought fittings / tiles etc in the sales, from the internet etc.

Obviously that involves a bit of effort / stress on your part and it may be better for you to have a company come in and do the whole thing, but you obviously pay for that.

How much is labour cost on a small bathroom in and around Belvedere (tiling both wall and floor, fittings of new bathroom set and lighting).

sasha123s · 22/04/2015 16:17

I got a quote for 2500. What do you think?

enderwoman · 22/04/2015 16:23

Including tiles etc or not?

BackCrackandNappySack · 22/04/2015 16:35

Unless you are planning on doing a lot of the work yourself I think £3k will barely scratch the surface. And doing it on a very tight budget generally means poor quality fittings that are not very robust.

I would go for cheap, basic tiles, but spend money on a strong, good quality bath and/or shower tray and good quality taps. Try ebay or B&Q end of lines for decent quality stuff that is being sold off cheap. The loo and basin can be pretty basic, porcelain is porcelain.

It costs a lot in labour to move around the arrangement of the room as all the pipework has to be reconfigured. Providing the current layout works don't mess with it unnecessarily.

mandy I recently did a small bathroom in a rental property in middle of the range fittings that I sourced myself from ex-display/internet etc., with cheap taps and accessories (a massive mistake, they've given me nothing but grief) and cheap tiles (fine, boring but fine) and a cheap tradesman (nightmare) it still cost me almost 5 grand! Are you seriously telling me you got all that for £5k using decent quality stuff? Confused

sasha123s · 22/04/2015 17:28

Not inclusive of tile. Just labour cost

sasha123s · 22/04/2015 17:30

I got my bathroom furniture online. Great quality

Hulababy · 22/04/2015 17:32

Both bathroom and ensuite came in at about £7k each including all fixtures/fittings and labour, included tiling, new ceiling, lights, cupboards, painting, etc.

larch101 · 22/04/2015 17:50

In my experience its the tiles (floor and walls) and tiling that pushes up the cost. I used to work for a bathroom retailer and cheap (but stylish) 5 piece sets (toilet, bath, sink, pedestal etc.) can be had for under £750. Strip out one day and fitting, if your not moving anything around is usually two days in a domestic bathroom.

Have you seen the cost of skips now too?! DIY as much of it as poss. Much cheaper and pretty simple.

sasha123s · 22/04/2015 18:17

My bathroom set cost about 650

BumWad · 22/04/2015 18:20

Small bathroom, everything from scratch. Top end products which we sourced ourselves. Total cost including labour £4.5K in the north west.

Ruperta · 22/04/2015 19:02

Oh dear - we had better keep on saving then!

SquidgyMaltLoaf · 22/04/2015 21:10

I didn't have the brain space to source it myself with a small baby and loads of other house renovations to sort. Ah well...

mandy214 · 22/04/2015 21:39

back yes, honestly Smile. I negotiate for a living (well, I'm a lawyer) so am very good at haggling and I did spend an inordinate amount of time bargain hunting!

PistolAnnie · 23/04/2015 07:10

We spent about 3.5k inc fitting for a small bathroom.

We got our loo, bath, sink and cupboard from Victoria Plumb, and tiles from Walls and Floors.

beardeddragon174 · 04/05/2015 15:49

1400 for bathroom suite from bathstore, all fittings included (taps, wastes etc).

1200 for labour including tiling but we saved 200 by ripping out the old suite beforehand and chipping off the tiles (a lot of mess, not really worth it).

200 for travertine tiles going cheap at Topps tiles. Only got half the room tiled - and then painted the rest in imitation f&b paint.

smile112 · 09/05/2015 08:14

Less than 2k due to be installed next month everything inc tiles. In the north east, now very worried something has been missedShock

wonkylegs · 09/05/2015 08:21

£7k for bathroom, shower room and downstairs WC
I bought everything and did non skilled jobs (painting / tiling splashback)
BUT I wish we'd spent more because our plumber was a complete nightmare despite having fully marked up architects drawings, he had to be supervised every minute as he made mistake after mistake.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 11/05/2015 01:01

£5k for us - tiles, flooring and all new suite.
