AARGH! Kitchen paint indecision!

I have birch Varde units, there'll be an oak floor and an oak table. I like decor on the relaxed side and don't like beige/cream/magnolia.

The room has lots of light, and has large windows that face west, plus a small south facing one.

I'm torn between muddy greens (eg F&B Aged White and Mizzle), a really bold navy (thinking Hicks Blue or Deep Space Blue from LG) or a black and white Scandi job.

All greys look really cold and blue/lilac in here, which I'm not keen on.

I also have a 1960s larder cupboard that I'd do F&B Arsenic if I went with the navy, St Giles Blue if I went Scandi and probably Downpipe if I went muddy green.

Am going colour blind, please assist!

F&B pigeon? Is lovely.

ZolaBuddleia · 13/04/2015 15:40

Thanks!

So, you'd be keener on muddy green scheme then, juggling?

I'm a bit of a muddy green fan myself. Easiest to live with.

ZolaBuddleia · 13/04/2015 17:07

Yes, easy to live with is a factor, but I wonder whether those colours have been done to death a bit, I'm seeing lots of Mizzle/Dix Blue front doors etc.
It's so hard! I want relaxed, warm and welcoming but calm.
Where do we stand on feature walls? I never know how to choose which wall should be a feature one!
In this room one wall has the dining table, one is the sink and a workbench, another is the cooker and the last has a fireplace.

I do like a deep blue, but not sure about navy - how about a petrol blue?

I think the MN vote is mixed on feature walls, but the key thing seems to be to avoid large floral wallpaper. Fireplace wall sounds nice...

These are nice:

Oh, I see that second one is the picture you've used! Yes, I like that.

Devora · 13/04/2015 17:56

This looks a bit blah here, but when I tested it on my wall it was a beautiful green-blue-grey:

ZolaBuddleia · 13/04/2015 18:10

Aah, I've been considering pearl colour in all its forms!

Yes, that deep space blue looks beautiful.

Wondering whether it would look nice to use one of those gorgeous blues (I love Stiffkey, Hicks and Hague) in the place of the black stripe on the Scandinavian picture, then white above and paint the freestanding cupboard a greeny blue.

Have just seen the fab orange kitchen on Plain English, and wondering whether I could do a stripe of Charlotte's Locks above the units, with the freestanding cupboard in St Giles Blue or one of the navys. Not sure whether orange would look right against birch though.

I feel a bit meh about doing the whole room one colour.

Tom Kerridge's most recent series has him cooking in a lovely kitchen, with lots of different colours of muted shades and an alcove-type panel of Woods wallpaper.

I'm being hideously indecisive, I'm annoying myself!

I recently painted my kitchen diner craig & rose porcelain blue. It's a vibrant, warm blue with a tinge of green when on the wall. If you like Arsenic, you might like a lighter shade of that colour.

SwedishEdith · 13/04/2015 18:16

I love that Hicks Blue. I also love Obsidian Green (LG) and if you used orange, I think you could use that.

Feature walls - just don't call them that. Grin I hate these rules, if you want to paint one or two walls a different colour to the rest, then do so.

jugglingmonkey · 13/04/2015 19:20

Pigeon doesn't look that green in our room, more just a classy beige/sludge. But I love it!
If you're looking at blue, oval room blue (also F&B) is our 'feature corner' in the dining room. V nice it is too...

Devora · 13/04/2015 19:23

I think your blue-white-greeny idea is beautiful, Zola. Mind, I also love Charlotte's Locks - the nicest orange I've ever seen. I've used it on my kitchen chairs.

Devora · 13/04/2015 19:25

And now I've just looked at the Plain English orange kitchen - lovely! I agree with you about the birch, though.

You've obviously got fabulous taste Smile

ZolaBuddleia · 13/04/2015 19:26

Feature corner! Is that a stealth boast, juggling? Grin

I'd never heard of that range, riro, thanks.

Loving the renegade attitude Edith, I think it's the idea of painting one wall a markedly different colour that's giving me the heebie jeebies. I'd do all four different colours if they were close tonally. Just being a chicken I think.

What's the view on painting a stripe of colour where the tiles would normally go?

Here's a lovely kitchen, for those in the floor painting frame of mind...

Bless you, Devora!

Yes, the wood in that Plain English kitchen is definitely lighter than the birch counter tops and units that I have. Loving plywood walls.

Glad to hear Charlotte's Locks is nice, maybe I'll sneak a bit in somewhere. I always think with orange you're a whisker away from peach on one side and terracotta on the other.

jugglingmonkey · 13/04/2015 19:31

Haha, not at all... As a PPoster said, there's no shame in a feature wall... We just painted two of them!

I'm on the mobile app so can't see images, but your plans sound lovely

SwedishEdith · 13/04/2015 19:34

LG only does one orange it seems but it shows you what colours go with it. We've got the Marine Blue in an alcove so not a feature wall Wink and it's gorgeous.
