how much for carpenter to make built in wardrobe?

Never had a built-in wardrobe done but I have a carpenter in at the moment doing lots of shelving and cupboards for a study, which is costing circa £900 but I had quotes nearer £2000 for the same job. Depending on the size of the wardrobe you want, and how posh a finish, I'd guess between £250 and £350 if you find someone relatively cheap and £500-£700 if you use someone from the higher end of the price spectrum.

I was guessing whole job would be about £1000 !

A couple of people I know have recently had them fitted one cost £1800 and the other £3000.

I'm having a freestanding wardrobe made for a specific alcove in DD's room. It's going to be three drawers at the bottom, then hanging space, then a top box for storage. The whole thing will be 100 inches high all told. The wardrobe is a triple with one third shelved. The price including painting and internal mirrors is around £1500. The same place's price for a basic double is around £600ish.

I prefer free standing to built in for the space concerned as want to preserve the proportions of the room though probably wouldn't be that easy to take if we moved.

I can recommend the shop which makes bespoke furniture and delivers.

thanks mysteryfairy , I think I'd only go for a full wall of wardrobes if we used a carpenter otherwise I'd just buy from a shop. Have seen gorgeous wardrobes but think Id get more storage for not much more money by getting carpenter to do soemhitng with the whole wall iykwim

Prob depends where you are aswell. I think 1500 would be a good price. Ours recently done, v basic and 5 doors were 1900, there are some niggles though with the finshed wardrobes, as a result I partly wish we had gone with a company. I got a quote for 2300 for two built in wardrobes left and right of chimney breast, 6 doors in total, 4 drawers inside. Will paint myself. Am in London.

Just to add mine were white melamine so don't need painting. I was up for painting them but dp vetoed! He likes a perfect finish. It looks ok, esp now we have painted the other walls grey, you wouldn't really notice it tbh, but reminds us a bit of a school hall wardrobe.

We got IKEA Pax and then got a carpenter to make them look more fitted and in the style of the room

I just paid £3200 for 2 large wardrobes.
1400 for me dd’s bedroom with 2 large mirrored doors.
1800 for mine but that included moving the loft hatch.

They have shakers or mirrored sliding doors and mdf sides that I have painted in F & B stiffkey blue.
I love them.

I converted my en suite into a walk in wardrobe but with doors. Also a storage cupboard into a shoedrobe. Each side has hanging rails, chest of drawers and shelves. It cost £2800
