hi i want to carpet my house but im not sure how to work out the messurements hoping someone can help. The carpet is sold in 4 meter width. and i have to say what length i want in meters... my messurements are...

room 1) 6ft x 9ft

room 2) 10ft x 16ft

room 3) 10ft x 11ft

my landing is 4ft x 8ft

stairs: i have 14 steps the tread is 9 inches and the drop is also 9 inches. the width is 3ft.....But i have 3 trangle type steps. the widest part is 3ft 8.

so i have 11 straight steps and 3 trangle steps... how would i work that out in meters....

would be greatful for the answers thank you

On the landing make sure you have measured over the nose to the first tread of top stair, make sure all measurement are taken to underneath door, not wall to wall, on the sizes you have given,

room 3) 3.05x4m

room 2) 5.05x4m room + 11 straight stairs

room 1) 1.85x4m room +winders 1&3

Landing) 1.25x4m Landing+winder2

Go into a local carpet shop, tell them your interested, and need to know how much to order.
Get the expert to measure it up!

I did it roughly in my old house, so I knew what price of carpet I could afford. I the estimator looked shocked when I came up with about the right answer! Honestly, stairs and landings are hard, and the professionals know how to get the best out of the rolls. It isn't as simple as what area total do I need (tho if you change the rooms in to m, and then take the longest side that is under 4m, the other length is the amount you need for that room, if you are not bothered about the lie of the carpet if it is patterned.

Where are you buying the carpet from? Both our local carpet shops will measure up for you before quoting. It's not something I'd want to do myself and get wrong...

I agree about asking the shop to measure if you can, and a better way to go about it, I answered thinking you were ordering online, (which I don't recommend)
I am in the carpet trade btw, and estimating is s'thing i do everydaySmile

oops to late orded on line. a friend checked my messurements said he's quite sure i have them right. the actual carpet was only 125 plus 40.00 delivery.for all the above. i only wanted cheap carpet to cheer things up a bit. but it must be total rubbish :/ oh well....

is there an alternitive to underlay thats much cheaper than actual underlay?

Have you got current underlay? what would happen if you laid the new carpet on top of the existing underlay?
Are you fitting yourself as well?

ghostspirit · 28/03/2015 19:42

no i dont have any underlay. and i think the carpet will be very thin and with a bit of time probably show the floor board shape underneith.

yes laying and fitting myself as well

Have a look online at www.tradepriced.co.uk. We have bought underlay from them three times. The more you buy, the cheaper it becomes per square metre.

ghostspirit · 29/03/2015 16:52

thankyou :) roughly how many square meter would i need?
