White cot bed and different furniture?

I split from my ex last year and moved out leaving behind the furniture I picked for him. My patents bought me a white cot bed which is lovely but I cannot find any furniture I really like to go with it. I was going to buy a white wardrobe in the sales but it has now increased in price so I would rather pick something I really like.

Will it look really awful to mix a white cot with soft white/ivory furniture? I don't really like matching furniture anyway, but I am worried the colours will look a bit daft together. I have seen wood and painted finishes mixed but never painted white and painted cream.

My thinking was I might as well get the furniture I actually like now as I will need to buy a different bed later anyway as a cot bed only lasts till 5 and lots of people switch earlier.

Yes, just buy what you like now! I don't think that matching furniture is all that Grin, I quite like a random mix of nice things.

That's what I was hoping, I am just scared it will look a bit crap, like I tried to match it but they're not quite the same shade.

I have a bad experience with a white chest of drawers yellowing horribly so I'm not keen to buy it again.

Well they grow out of the cot bed / baby stuff quite quickly.

I would choose "main" furniture that will last the test of time and that you can co-ordinate a full size bed with in due course.....

And you'll be replacing the cot in the future anyway.

We've got a dark stained wood bed, 2x cream chests of drawers, and 2x grey painted chairs (for our floordrobes Blush) in our bedroom. I really like it.

He had such gorgeous furniture some dark grey and some pale grey, I can't afford to replace it so am consoling myself by saying it will be grown out of soon and buying proper grown up furniture.

Thank you.

Just as an idea could you buy something that is either plain wood or second hand and then paint it in the colour that you want. If you really liked grey before and you painted something grey it would go with the white cot bed. We bought a vintage wardrobe for my daughter in second hand shop and painted it white and it works really well and was £40 for the wardrobe and £30 for paint, sandpaper etc. (you can just see it in the corner of the photo)

Do you like the look of anything from Ikea? Their children's wardrobes are really reasonably priced and would grow with your son. Not grey but this one... www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S49875962/#/S19001783
is black and white.

Hi suzyrut funnily enough my SIL suggested this today while she was here painting my son's room for me. Even though I'm slightly upset because I picked it out and chose the colours I think I am going to go completely different rather than try to imitate the room he had before.

I love your daughter's bed by the way.

Thanks. I think that's a great idea, fresh start!

My daughter's bed is from Ikea (can you tell I am a massive fan!) Smile
