Do you or would you have your bed against your radiator?

I moved last year and I have finally gotten some time to sort out my bedroom, but...

My place is a new build so I have a very small master bedroom. Even though the room is so small, I am trying to squeeze a super king sized bed into it; call me crazy.

Well my problem now is that the room is rectangular which means if I want to have space to walk around the foot of my bed, I would have to put it in front of my radiator. If I put it against one of the other walls, I will only have 20cm left at the foot of the bed or maybe even as little as 5cm depending on the length of the bed.

So do I compromise and have no walking space at the end of the bed, or do I compromise and block my bedroom radiator?

To be fair, even if I was getting a standard queen sized bed it wouldn't really make a difference anyway.

How much do you use your bedroom radiator?

mummymummypony · 03/03/2015 16:22

I hate the cold merrymouse.

My heating is on right now and Its actually a little warm today. I have been researching to see if there are ways I could have the bed about 10 inches away from the radiator and then line the back of the bed with some form of reflective sheeting so it wont absorb the heat and will bounce it back upwards. A long shot I know Blush

Could you move the radiator? Or change it for tall one ?

Not for a few years Ivy.

A tall one would have instantly solved my dilemma too.

We do. We have to have the radiator on low because otherwise DH burns himself on it. I like to be warm but it's OK in fact, because the rest of the house is warmer so it doesn't get freezing in there. It's probably a degree or two colder than the rest of the house, and of course the warmest place is in bed! I snuggle under the duvet and it's OK. It's recommended to sleep in a slightly cooler room anyway.

Thanks for the reply Bertie. Sadly the warmth doesn't seem to travel around my house that well.

I've been measuring up the bedrooms all afternoon and after much consideration I think I will have to put the bed in sideways and have no space to walk around the foot of it.

Maybe I'll pick up some parkour skills as I learn to manoeuvre around it though Grin

Get an electric blanket for colder nights to warm the bed and consider a portable oil heater/radiator. My room is cold even though the radiator is clear; the little oil heaters aren't too bad to run, i costed it. Put it on a timer to make sure you never leave it on all night/day and you'll be grand.
