Good quality wallpaper

I have found a wallpaper in Laura Ashley that i really like but it's £39 per roll. We have LA wallpaper in one room and the quality is rubbish ---you can see every bump below, even though the walls were lined first.

Where do you find good quality wallpaper that doesn't cost £££

Thanks

I think the bumps are more to do with the walls below than the paper tbh. Textured wallpapers and heavy duty stuff will probably makes lumps and bumps less noticeable but consider having the walls skimmed if they are really bad.

We have Laura ashley wallpaper and have no bumps at all so I suspect it's the wall. At the minute they have 30% off.

Laura Ashley paper is shit.

Nina Campbell, Cole and co, Osborne and little, - all a bit more expensive but much , much better.
Hate to say it but farrow and ball papers, while expensive, are very good.

MummiUni · 01/03/2015 21:39

Thanks, Ive looked at the ones pagwatch has suggested and have come to the conclusion that the more expensive the paper the harder the website to navigate ...I can't find anything like the L A one anywhere!

Thing is good quality wallpaper inevitably costs ££££

MummiUni · 01/03/2015 21:48

We don't mind paying £40 but want it to look good when done not all bumpy

i just feel that LA isn't v good

you can't really tell on the internet cos the LA one looks shit

I have Osborne and Little in the bedroom. No bumps - very good quality (thick, robust) paper. Was £90 per roll though!

decorator is coming tomorrow so it all depends how much we need.

i'm looking for a subtle neutral stripe with a a single reddish coloured stripe....off to look at O and L, thank you

I've had LA wallpaper in the past and it wasn't 'shit'. Current house is mainly professionally done lining paper which has then been painted.

Certain patterns and colours will emphasise unevenness in the walls. Stripes can be one of the worst things. I'm sure the decorator will be able to advise and assist.

Pagwatch · 02/03/2015 07:47

What sort are you looking for?
Do you want to link the style - someone might have seen something similar.
Do you have a heals near you. They have good quality stock and you can then seek out a bargain on line.

I've used three great decorators and all of them tried to talk me out of Laura Ashley because it lacks structure and doesn't go up well. One of them put up a crystal embellished paper so didn't generally resist a challenge.
Some of the papers are lovely but they just haven't looked great up.. The two occasions I used it, including a hallway , I ended up changing it .

In our last house I bought some Laura Ashley wallpaper that looked great on the roll but awful when up. I don't rate their quality these days.

EmNetta · 03/03/2015 00:06

I'm sure the decorator would be able to do a good job painting the walls with the stripes you describe, without any bumps and probably at less cost than wallpaper.

Sanderson wallpaper is much better quality than Laura Ashley.

Alternatively put up lining paper horizontally, making sure that seams don't quite touch, use fine filler or caulk to smooth the seams, then your chosen paper on top.

mandy214 · 03/03/2015 14:15

I agree, we used LA in my DD's bedroom and it was poor quality. I don't think it was a question of lining / smooth walls, I was just really quite disappointed with the finish and look of it once it was up.

I've used Nono wallpaper previously (although it was about £70 a roll) and still to this day has been the best wallpaper I have ever used. Looked beautiful. Would also recommend Prestigious wallpaper - we used a slightly metallic /pearlised finish in our bedroom which potentially could have shown up every tiny dint in the wall, but that looks lovely too.

We've also used Graham & Brown - can't remember how much it was but it was something like £10 a roll. We had had the walls newly skimmed but the paper itself was surprisingly good quality for sort of a budget range. Had looked everywhere for a particular design / colour combination and it looks brilliant.

Pigleychez · 03/03/2015 17:50

I've picked a Harlequin wallpaper for our bedroom that were about to redecorate.
Anyone know the quality of that? I'm imagining it ok is at £70 a roll?

DeathByTeabag · 03/03/2015 22:22

That does sound expensive. How many rolls would it take to cover a room?

Pigleychez · 04/03/2015 21:50

We are only covering 2 walls so estimate 2 rolls will be enough. Its a extra wide paper too.

CanToCandle · 04/03/2015 22:01

Graham and Green, have gorgeous wallpapers, reasonably priced

CanToCandle · 04/03/2015 22:02

Meant to say graham and brown
