white walls?

So I'm 33 weeks pregnant and everyone is blaming this on nesting but I've wanted to redecorate for ages.

We have Ikea hemnes grey-brown furniture in our bedroom, I'm thinking a very pale yellow on the wall behind the bed, and white walls.

For DS's room I'm thinking a grey wall (it's called steel) and the other walls white. This is because at the moment, his room is blue but eventually DD (not born yet) will have to share and I'd like a more neutral room for them to grow up in together. DS's furniture is white & wood effect, with a dark grey chair, and dark grey blinds.

Both rooms get quite a good bit of light, but are awkward as they have the windows and radiators on opposite sides, making it hard to arrange the room properly.

My question really is, are white walls just a bit too white?

I'm a huge believer in white walls in children's rooms - their favourite colours change so quickly and it's cheap and easy to quickly update with different coloured accessories. Grey also good, and neutral, so you can put in loads of different highlight colours.

In your room: white walls with dark wood furniture always nice. Not completely sure about pale yellow on the wall - will this be enough of a contrast with the white? How about a wallpaper?

So thumbs up to white walls. Look great, providing you put in colour elsewhere.

We just painted hallway and main bedroom in Dulux Jasmine White. Really nice - looks white but not 'bright' white iyswim, so not too stark or cold. Brightens up our previously dark and dingy hallway beautifully

No, white walls are great. I've got nearly every room in my house painted white (cheapo white paint at that - bought some to use in the spare room and discovered it looked exactly the same as the £25 a tin white in the living room) and my house doesn't feel cold or dreary. As long as you have other bits of colour, it can look great.

Funnily enough MillyMollyMandy78 Jasmine White is what is in our bedroom at the moment, but with a purple wall which is what I want to paint over with white because I don't want to buy anymore paint and I have a massive tub of white

I'm not 100% on the yellow either but will have to have a think. Off to browse those wallpaper links now!

theres many tones/shades of white, I started off with dark slate blue/grey doors with white walls in my hallway but felt it was to cold - so bought a warmer white from dulux range called nutmeg white. looks a lot better than bright white.

I love my new Jasmine White walls, but there are loads of different whites in the same range that would probably look great too. I also agree that wallpaper might be the way to go, as will add a bit of texture/ subtle design details to avoid it looking stark or a bit two-dimensional.
