Looking to make sine changes in my lounge while I like everything in my lounge it's lacking! It needs brightening up as it's quite dark!

I was originally thinking teal with grey cusions, accessories etc but found this colour palette online and really like the colours!

Sofa and table will def be staying and if I can keep the curtains (grey) that would be great as they are quite new! It's a big room and I might move the layout around!

I'm happy to change the wallpaper/paint if need be (either way walls need freshening up as grubby from kids now!

Hoping with the right walls and lots if new accessories I could make the room a little more interesting!

First thing I'd change would be the light shades, think they are darkening the room, then I'd get rid of the feature wall, just paint it. A few accessories aren't going to brighten this room!

Oh my goodness, completely agree re light fittings, they would give me a migraine! and yes lose the feature wall. Go for a light neutral colour on the walls, it is a dark room with dark furnishings and dark floor.the far left hand paint colour is the best

Agree that you need to get rid of the dark wall. Your floor is dark (and lovely) and together they just soak up all the light in the room. Stick with lighter coloured walls, all round.

Change the lights and the feature wall. It's a very dark paper and you need something lighter/brighter. Either just paint using the plummy/mulberry shade and some cushions in the plum/grey to tie it together. And a light fitting or shade that allows the light to shine. I'd go for something quite blingy, crystals etc and several bulbs in the one fitting to get maximum light.

Totally agree with pp re: the light fitting and feature wall. Also consider a standard lamp or two, one in corner behind the dining table and another elsewhere in the room and a dimmer switch on the main light(s). Then if you want a cosier feel in the evenings you can have lower level lighting.

I don't think the plummy colour from the palate you have shown will lighten the room up significantly. If you use the creamy colour on the long walls and the plummy colour on the shorter walls or least the short wall behind the dining table it will give the room some personality without making it feel dark. Add cushions in the same colour and replace the curtains with something lighter - maybe the same creamy background colour as the long wall and the plum colour plus one or two of those other colours - and that will tie everything together.

Agree that the room needs more light. If you're keeping the curtains, can you reconfigure the poles so you can pull them completely clear of the windows... Even a little overhang blocks some of your natural light. Also agree about adding standard lamps/table lamps for much more comfortable light.

I like the palette you've posted, but you'll need to pick just a couple of the colours to fit in with the non-negotiable colours in your room: the floor (lovely, by the way), the sofas, and possibly the curtains. I'd lean towards painting in the cream and icy blue, maybe with a few accents in the duck egg.

If you look at the room, the only light parts are the ceiling & some of the walls - 2 possibly, the 3rd light coloured window wall is swamped by the dark heavy curtains so is cancelled out already. And the mirror is just reflecting the room contents & curtains which are dark so it's not helping. Put light rugs around the space, use light colours on the walls, you need light colours on the sofa - cushions, throws etc - get some new dining chairs if possible or reupholstery seats in a lighter colour. There are lots of things you can do, but first of all think about how the current big dark things (walls, table, floor) can be lightened easily.
And find a colour palette which includes the warm brown of the furnishings so you can see how they all fit together, then you won't be trying to force a palette into a space - anything in that dark purple will just add to the dark already there....

Thank you for the replies, I totally agree about the light fittings and already looking at new along with a few lamps etc!

It's a large room and I have been thinking about getting rid of the paper and just painting the feature wall rather than go for paper!

Lots of good suggestions, I'm looking forward to changing it now
