Are feature walls still in?

Just that really. We have a huge living room to decorate and it's a bit overwhelming. I've got a blank canvas, but it's just a bit too blank, I can't seem to decide on anything.

So feature wall of wall paper maybe? Or is that naff?

To me, a feature wall of wallpaper is totes naff.

But painting a wall a different colour is timeless, it's never going to go 'out of fashion', I've been doing it for 35 years in various homes and it just works

They've been over for ages, sorry.

Best to stick with what works for the space rather than fads of fashion, in decor, imo.

do what you think is best, don't worry about fashion - whatever is in fashion now will be gone in a year so doesn't matter what is fashionable unless you want to change it all the time.

Ooooo, now I don't know! It's a through lounge and dining room so it kind of needs something. I was drooling over some F&B wallpaper . I have to have a good think. Thanks.

I have a decorator prparing my walls to paint tomorrow. I think when plaster dry, im going to do off-white with the alcoves either side of fire orange, then put up white shelves. Might be out but i know what u mean about a canvas being too blank. My mum ad dad's sitting room is anaemic imo. They meant to get a few briggt lamps and cushions but they are all too subtle.

I hate wallpaper myself. Would never put up wallpaper.

Is painting recessed walls a bright colour naff too?? I dont read home magazines as i cant afford to be tempted. I do want to do it how i like it but i dont want to spend money making it look dated!

Agree with Riverland. If you want to use different colours in different parts of the room, then do.

Do what you want to do.. what you get enjoyment put if. It doesn't matter if it's 'in' are we all sheeples now with our browns and greys?

I'm not into them but what I would love is panelling on the bottom half of the walls and paper (subtle print) above.

Not brave enough though, so just have one colour and a huge mirror on feature wall

Personally I hate feature walls, but have the courage to do whatever you want and like, and to hell with what anyone else thinks.

Changing wallpaper is a pita. Changing paint is easy. Go with a paint feature. You're not stuck with it if you change your mind or get sick of it.

I buy home magazines......its an addiction. They are still showing houses with feature walls but mostly in bedrooms.

After having a think and a good mooch on Pinterest I think we are going to go for reinstating the picture rail and then painting below that, with above the same as the ceiling. I think anyway ha.
