My heart says Green (Chartwell Green)

My head says Black

I have a 1930's red brick semi. I have a black step and here is the rub, Upvc windows with coloured glass. The glass in red/green/yellow and blue. I didn't choose them btw!

I love the Chartwell Green, but will it look bad with my house. Shall I go for black. Current door is awful Upvc white plastic.

Pics are my door and window. Green door or black door?

Thanks

I took a very nosy dog walk today & conducted a survey to see which colours are used in my road & which look good.

Interestingly my favorite house has a black door - original or original style+ stained glass BUT the colour (or lack of it) is wrong - it's a bit daring/drab/flat/still.

There are several different shades of blue, including navy, bright blue, teal blue - all quite nice, fit it, fine with stained glass

There are a few greens..dark greens mainly & one that looks the colour you like.

A couple of reds, a yucky bright pinky red, a dark red (nice but I wouldn't go for it) & an ok dark pinky red.

A few whites. All fine.

A few wood (probably effect & stain glass, replica) 1 of stripped-but-not-varnished wood. And a couple of rougue greys.

All the doors are set in white frames, all have white windows too.

We have a 1950's house with dark green front door. I thought I wanted black, but glad I didn't choose it.

My choice for your house is 1930's style, pale green (chartwell ?) & matching stained glass Grin.

Oops, didn't see your last post, yes that's a good red colour. The other red in our road is almost a burgundy. I'm just not a red fan Blush.

If your neighbourhood is anything like mine, any door visible from the road should be white as a Dove.

Thankfully I have a side entrance, so have chosen turquoise! Grin

Thank you willowisp for your survey Grin. Very useful as no one on my street seems to have stuck to the original 1930's door.

The more I see the red the more I think it looks like Noddy's door!

I agree a matching glass would be ideal, my finances don't stretch that far (sob). But light green with a white surround and a neutral glass sounds classy and fitting. Relieved to hear it's not vital to match glass colour to door colour.

Dh is dying for a red door I think! We just bought a new front door. It is glossy black with a window, we have reddish brick. Garage is going to be painted black I guess, the trim is cream. We plan on selling so choose neutrals. Red door next house perhaps!

Saltedcaramel2014 · 11/11/2014 12:36

The green is nice but everywhere. At least in the area where I live all the houses bought by developers are painted this same green and it's starting to look quite tired

musicalendorphins2 · 11/11/2014 12:41

If you do an image search for "sage door", google shows a lot of nice green ones and most have red brick, and are very nice. Also, "olive door" for differant ones.

We have red. It's fab and I love it.

On a 60s house but just wanted an opportunity to share the red door :)

Glad to have helped Smile I remember agonising over my door choice !

Shame you can't stretch to the stain glass in the door - what's the difference in price ? (Considers organising whip round). I guess you could always replace it later ?

I have stain glass envy Envy

Monica101 · 11/11/2014 21:28

That is a fab door kerberos, red is very good feng shui too (I've reached a new level of desperation looking up that but still....)

Yes agonising is the word willowisp, I think i've decided then I haven't...

It's costing £1365 and I need to restrain myself to that being my top limit as the house does not warrant a bespoke door Grin though door lovers stay away from the London Door Company's website if you don't want to have door envy!

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
