Window dressing for oddly shaped bay windows

I've got an odd window - bah. It's a shallow bay, which is fine, but there is also a ledge at the bottom of the window so you can't have floor length (or you could but they would jut out over the ledge) and you can't go up higher than top of window as the ceiling kind of cuts in there too. Which means curtains look a bit crap as they only can pull to edge of window so block out some light and can't go up higher or down to floor.
We thought about shutters but they are way expensive. Blinds? Would these look ok in a living room? Would floor length look rubbish with this funny ledge?
Think we will have to go with curtains but then what sort of fabric - I'm thinking thin linen?
Help!

How about wooden or painted venetians that you use every day and curtains that you dont draw, just to soften the look?

Is it this type of bay?

.....Actually, on second thoughts, maybe roman blinds are the way to go.

We have a window that sounds the same. We just have curtains inside the bay. I didn't really consider any other options. I do prefer floor length generally, but if you can't then it looks ok I think.

Could you hang the curtains across the front of the bay and have blinds on the actual windows. That way you have privacy, but the curtains soften the impact of the bay.

We have a bay window just like that in the front of our house. We have sill length windows inside the bay. Yes, they do stop light on each side as they block the window. But our window is very wide, so we don't mind that much. It's also an old house, and can be cold, so we chose a heavyweight fabric that includes velvet to get more insulation.

If I didn't have those issues, I would have chosen roman blinds.

Just to add that our inside bay ones don't seem to block out any more light at the side than if they were in front of a normal window. Roman blinds would prob be worse if anything as it's the top of the window, where the sun comes from , that they block.

Hello
Thanks v much for responses.yep exactly like that pic! I think my DH would not go for curtains at side and blinds as he'd say what's point of curtains (he doesn't get styling and things just looking nice!)
Hmm will have to think on options. Think might have to go with plain curtains.
Does anyone know whether heavy or light curtains would work better on half length?

I would just have full length curtains across the front. In that picture above there is a curtain pole.
