Hello all,
We are about to gut a house... Eek, first time doing so... Once all the important work is done, we can move on to paint colours!!

I love F&B 'pointing', but it is so expensive and also very thin on the walls... Does anyone know of any good copies of this paint colour, or of other F&B ones??
Many thanks Thanks

B&q can colour match using valspar paint. Take a paint chart in and ask them

Ooh thank you. And what is the paint quality/thickness/sheen like on them?

You can choose the finish

Premium paint is excellent! £26.98 for 2.5 litres in silk, mat or Mid sheen

You can undercoat in a cheap similar colour the just do one coat of f+b on top- so you stil benefit ffrom the f+b pigments

It's better if you buy a F&B book of samples painted with real paint rather than free charts.

We got the Dulux Endurance paint and colour matched farrow and ball colours. That way we had the washable matt we needed with small children but in colours we wanted. Make sure they match from the paint sample not give you their 'interpretation' of a farrow and ball colour like they initially teied to give us, that was rubbish colour wise..

Dulux endurance actually comes off on the cloth when you wipe it tho..... Try it, it's not great

Find a local company that mixes Johnstons paints, wouldn't use crown/dulux again. Especially not for woodwork paint.

IAmNotDarling · 19/10/2014 00:03

Dulux diamond trade paint from local merchants matched as you need - most have a mixing book with the colours in!

Farrow & Ball is horrible to work with anyway. Have a look at Little Greene paints - they are gorgeous and although they're more expensive than Dulux etc. they not as expensive as F&B.

We colour matched with crown trade. The sheen was good for the estate emulsion and I can't really tell the difference. Saved hundreds ££s. However, I couldn't find anything to match the extremely low sheen look of the modern emulsion which we used for bathrooms so used f&b.

We used F&B initially, but after a nightmare cleaning nursery walls and paint peeling off we went with B&Q Valspar colour match; very good quality.

One thing is to beware of is new staff working a paint mixing machine. I went to a local Johnstons and a guy had 2 goes at mixing F&B colour and still it was wrong as he couldn't work the machine manually. It was for the best as I just adjusted his best match to a hue I much preferred to F&B but couldn't find in any colour charts. I have a feeling if you followed proper painters to a local trade shop you would find they mix F&B but just don't advertise it. Just make sure they don't stock F&B paints as they would be contractually prohibited from copying the colours.

I've bought samples of Mylands Marble Emulsion. It was mentioned on here - I found it when searching re F&B. It seems bomb-proof and the colours look nice.
