We have just (finally) bought our first home, it's a big one as we have moved out of London finally and now have a 4 bedroom house to furnish!!

We haven't got huge budgets but have a bit to spend. Went to Ikea, bit to cheap and naff although some bits are good obviously (Pax wardrobes). Also been to John Lewis but that's the pricier end of out budget.

I plan to get some things second hand and paint / treat myself but we are now looking for various items including kitchen table, storage units, cupboards, drawers etc and I don't know where to look.

The 'look' we are aiming for is kind of Scandinavian meats country, I really like Cox and Cox and although at the more expensive end of what we want to pay would stretch to that.

Anyone have any other ideas of where to look please?

Thanks

eBay! Whenever I see something I like I check on eBay to see if I can get the same, or similar for less on there. Although some dealers on there have pushed prices up, you can still pick up bargains on furniture and get some more unusual bits.

Also try Home Sense if you have one near you, TK Maxx's home shop. I have bought loads of stuff from there that is very Cox & Cox but much, much cheaper.

Thanks for these tips! Have just been looking for some bits tonight and scaring myself with prices so will try some of the above too.

I thought John Lewis House range was reasonable and well priced. Habitat are ok when they have a sale on. Neptune are solid but not cheap although would be good for some items. Made.com or Loaf might be worth a look. Sofa.com too.

Your local charity furniture warehouse - Age UK often has them, or hospice shops. Lots of horrible stuff but some total gems as well, and really really cheap. I get all my furniture from my local one (or Ikea).

What about Homescapes: www.homescapesonline.com/
Theres some really good soft furniture there and at a good price too.

Junk shops, salvage places, ebay and then paint them.

Local FB 'spotted' or 'for sale' pages are great too.

You can get much sturdier pieces that way.
