My mum died a couple of years ago (cant believe it that long) i took a box full off her 'favorite' clothes and would love to make a patch work quilt out of all of them (my mum was a big lady so lots off material in the dresses :)

My dad new partner desimated his house of every trace of my mum, my sister took all her jewellrey, and photographs - all i have is a box of her favorite dresses.

Is this possiable and if so how would i start?

Sorry for your loss Flowers.
What a lovely idea to make a quilt.

Are there any local quilting courses running that you could join?

Lovely idea. SIL has a beautiful quilt that her mum made for her, made from all her old childhood dresses - bits of school uniform, party dresses, curtains from her old bedroom....its gorgeous and so personal and unique.

But you need to be able to do it properly. Definitely find yourself a course.

Sorry about your mum x I am planning on doing this with dd baby clothes and making her a throw for her big girl bed. There ars some lovely pink floral patterns. It's hard to explain but patchwork is quite easy and therapeutic. A tip I would give for a beginner would to use a large easy shape such as a square for all your patches. Just Google patchwork for beginners you will find patterns/instructions. I'm going to back mine with fleece which you can get quite cheap from most fabric shops. Good luck xx

Sorry about your mum. A shame there is no trace of her in your old home now. That was a bit extreme of the new partner imo.

I think you will find quilting classes if you google. It has been my observation that quilters love to teach and to chat and help newbies. If you can find a local group you might make several new friends and also end up with a nice quilt -- I think the quilt idea is wonderful.

Try FB or any local sewing /fabric shop or crafters' guild for leads to quilters or quilting groups.
