Where do Scandiwegians keep their clothes?!

I am currently trying to do a low cost makeover on our bedroom. We've been here 8 years and I put up the old curtains from our previous lounge the day we moved in and that's about as close to design as the poor room has ever seen Blush (We have done a massive amount of building work downstairs).

However, DH is driving me crazy with his never ending 'pile' of clothes on his chair in the bedroom, the pile of books and magazines on his side of the bed and on (not in, grrrr) his bedside drawer unit etc. I want to provide a place for everything and tell him to damn well put it there! Grin

I am feeling inspired by lovely Scandi white and grey themes. Which need to be pretty minimalist to work.

We have 2 Victorian/Edwardian dressers (one of which is mine huge). We currently have 2 small wardrobes - Ikea Aneboda. And despite me having a massive clear out, it is only just enough.

Looking at the equivalent of photoshopped underwear models bedroom style ideas on blogs and Pinterest the one thing they have in common is no bloody clothes storage. Some have an open rail with about 6 shirts on it. But surely real people have more clothes?

Tell me, do the Swedish spend so much time in Sauna they can get away with 30% less clothing? Grin

How much clothes storage do you have? Should I just clear out more... do we really have too many clothes? Shock

My Swedish relatives have big wardrobes but they aren't IKEA, although their teen has a floordrobe... Smile

Nearly everyone has built in wardrobes. They tend to be huge but look minimalist because you basically just see the doors on one wall. But then room sizes are generally bigger in Scandinavian properties compared to the UK.

But I thought that they all lived in amazingly planned studio apartments where the illusion of space was created by clever use of curtains and bookcases and actually their beds all fitted into a space the size of a cupboard (I may be exaggerating a touch and simply be insanely jealous of massive white modern creations like in the bridge etc)

So here in the UK then, what is a reasonable amount of clothes storage to be able to fit in a bedroom (sadly a walk in closet is an impossibility it's the nursery Blush)

Our new bedroom is 10 x 10 ft with 2 alcoves. We're going to be able to fit a wardrobe each and a chest of drawers between us and that'll be it. Have you tried doing the "seasonal" wardrobe thing? Where you put your summer clothes into those vacuum pack storage bags when the clocks go back and bring out the winter wear? Bags then go in loft or under bed until the clocks go forward.

I find that wearing layers a lot I don't have much 'seasonal' stuff but do try and pack it away.
Annoyingly, even tho I put it away clean, it has a sort of 'stored' smell and I always rewash when I unpack.
I don't like wardrobes and am lucky enough to have a spare bedroom so all my 'hung' clothes are in there.
I have a curtain pole in each alcove and a hanging rail in front of the chimney breast between the 2 alcoves.
I love being able to see everything.

I keep one bag of things i can't wear but can't get bear to get rid of. Everything in my wardrobe is wearable and gets worn. My problem is shoes.
