Roman Blinds..

Anyone know if having Roman Blinds made up from a fabric should influence the pattern? Ie does the pattern repeat matter? Also why on earth do they cost so much to have made?

They are fiddly to make, so they are time consuming - hence the cost.
Regards pattern, the repeat shouldn't matter: you just need to ensure the blind is absolutely square as any pattern with anything in rows or columns will highlight poor cutting and making. If you are having more than one blind made for a room (I had a window either side of my fireplace, for example) then you need to pattern match every blind so that the pattern is in the same place on every one. It looks really messy otherwise.

The track that the go on is quite expensive so that adds to the cost.

I've made them without any track- I just used a piect of wood covered with the blind fabric. I sew the Velcro onto this first and then staple the fabric onto the wood. The roman blind kits are very expensive, I'd never use them.

I've got some older ones velcroed on to wooden battens but the last I made I just bought a rachet kit from ebay and it really wasn't very expensive.

I've never made any that required more than one width of fabric though, so the only pattern matching I've done is as said up above, to make sure that every window has the same pattern drop to match.

Sorry to hijack, but I'm about to make one. Is it possible to use the chain rather than cord if you are using the wooden batten method? ie the surplus will be round a cleat rather than in the barrel of the header rail?

I prefer the look of the chain, and also you can fit the breakaway things.
