Tv concealed as mirror or picture?

Does anyone have experience with these? I want to be able to watch films in our drawing room, but don't want a tv on display. The room focus is on the fireplace, so I would put it up above the mantle - but when not being watched, would want a pretty framed mirror, or a picture at a push. Any ideas on brands etc. Do I need to get a home media company to set it all up?

If you go onto pinterest there are loads of ideas. Basically you need a frame, glass and mirror film on the glass. You need to decide if you want the frame to hinge open so you can turn the Tv off standby easily.

Thanks. I can see a few pics on Pinterest, but not much detail. We have about £2,500 including the tv itself - does this seem too little?

you might find it easier to keep the TV in a cabinet in an alcove instead - you can buy a kit that allow your TV to pop up out of a cabinet via hafele.co.uk too - it's a bit James Bond ! but keeps the room looking TV free !! if you have a real fire or even a gas one that generates a lot of heat you should think really carefully about having any appliance above it - as it could get heat damaged,

Thanks for the links. The fireplace is very large and ineffective, so it doesn't kick out much heat, it's just nice to have a focal point. But including the tv itself I think we don't have enough for those options.....maybe a local joiner could rig up a cupboard door, that swings open and shut......

I'd get just a very very plain, minimalist type - and not big - screen on the wall. A tv in a frame could be a bit naff (disclaimer: personal opinion!), although a very over-the-top frame could be fun in an ironic sort of way.

Hmm, leftover monster..... I would do that in a less formal room, but tvs all have black screens when switched off, and our drawing room is quite light colours, floral and traditional. It really is noticeable, as when we entertain, we all sit around the fireplace chatting, and I hate that black box look.

Could do something like this?

What is a drawing room exactly ? Is it a posh persons lounge?

JumpRope · 07/05/2014 14:36

Keely79, that would not work as the open fireplace is below it, so nowhere for the tv to slide down to.

We just call it drawing room, because we have a sitting room where we normally watch tv etc., so this is more for socialising. But it would be nice if we could watch films in there.
