Finishing off plaster

When you come to finish off a room, do you use polyfilla to fill and correct the plasterers strokes or something else ? I've done the coving using coving adhesive which seemed finer than bog standard polyfilla and after going around 3 times you can't see the seams. I know I've got a day of sanding ahead but you only do this once, right ? The room is painted but just needs the final polish.

You can use a broad metal scraper which is far faster and cleaner than sanding. Not on your cornice if it is plastic.

Plasterers tell me that smooth patching can be done using a fine readimix plaster in tubs that is sold for the taped joints in plasterboard that is not going to be skimmed. I think they call it jointing plaster.

PS advice on cannister vac given sometime ago gratefully acted upon but I can report that screwfix's entry level vac suffers with the hose collapsing under the suction. Still it will save the regular vac from death by plaster so thanks !
