Small box room hanging space solutions!

I'm just in the middle of planning my boys rooms - they are swapping. DS1 is going in the box room. He's about to turn 12. He's got a high sleeper, and my plan is to get the Ikea malm drawers for under his bed, and his TV/xbox will go on top of that. I am going to get him a poang chair to go under the bed also for watching TV . Storage is limited to wall space - expedit unit along one wall with boxes in, and 2 shelves on the other wall.

We need some sort of hanging space - for his blazer, school shirts and coats. About 8 items in total.

Does anyone have any good soutions in such a small room for this? Definitely no wardrobe space.

Room is exactly 2mx2m, so a proper box room Grin.

I could store the clothes in the other room - however the baby is 13 months, and he can't be going in and out of the room to get things out as he will wake the baby who wakes at the drop of a pin. So ideally, I'd prefer it all in his own room.

Thanks!

For so few items I would get one of those hanger things that hook on the top of the door, they usually have 4 pegs on them.

There are quite a few over the door solutions and you can get hangers that take several items.

How about a shelf with a hanging rail under it or something like this con-tain-it.typepad.com/.a/6a00e551fb5ccb88340128771b757d970c-pi

There are lots of ideas in the section with the shoe racks and hall storage as well

HereIsMee · 13/01/2014 22:41

Oops not quite the right link but you can imagine it with hangers.

TheDetective · 13/01/2014 22:41

Thanks for the ideas! Not 100% sure we can have anything behind the door yet, it might be possible. I'll have to measure it tomorrow! I have a feeling the door will open and hit the bed/drawers as it hits a 90 degree angle. I was kind of hoping that there might be something that hides the stuff also Grin.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Google hallway and utility-room storage, there are all sorts of shelves with hooks and hangers below.

We have baskets on a shelf above our hall hooks, brilliant for gloves, sun hats, scarves etc.

Also hall solutions may have shoe racks or benches infer them, that might provide ideas for a small space.

Starballbunny · 13/01/2014 22:51

You can rig up curtains or buy canvas wardrobes, but he won't shut it or will leave it shut and hang clothes on his bunk.

TheDetective · 13/01/2014 22:55

Oooh, I've got it - one of the shelves with hooks underneath as above - but I'll put it under his bed, behind the poang. That way it's accessible, but not in the way! Yay!

A problem shared, and all that!

Grin now you have to convince him to hang things up.

Kicks DD1's door open due to dressing gown, Parker and fleece onsie on floor not hooks.

HereIsMee · 14/01/2014 00:34

DS16 swears by his floordrobe Hmm but you seem to have it sorted now.

NigellasDealer · 14/01/2014 00:35

a chain hanging down one wall for hangers to go on?

pippop1 · 14/01/2014 00:38

Can you get his bedroom door reversed so that it opens outwards? we had this done in a small room and it makes a surprising difference to space in the room.

pippop1 · 14/01/2014 00:39

By "Outwards" I mean the door opens towards the person entering the room rather than away from them.

TheDetective · 14/01/2014 00:45

I could do - yes. I think. I'm not sure. I'll have a look!
