Anyone like to suggest some ideas for my new house? Everywhere is peach or beige or magnolia. I am tied to brown sofas in the lounge and also the tiles on the fireplace are beigy. I used a crown colour in my last house which was a very pale chalky cream but trying to avoid the brown cream thing this time. I like grey but it won't go with my sofas. Am really struggling. It is a small room and while not dark is not filled with light either. Think I will have to avoid blues....

Inspire me with what you have in your front rooms!

Brown is quite a good colour for sofas! Neutral enough. Our living room is a sort of eau de nil pale greeny blue colour. Sofas are cream and tweedy pink, and we have a massive gilt mirror above the fireplace. No particular 'scheme' but I like it, and quite plain apart from this chair which I love Smile

A tip someone gave me once - choose paint/wall colour last - paint comes in every colour under the sun. It's much more limiting choosing blinds/fabrics/carpets so do those first.

ok
mine has black leather sofas, dark wood floor ,dark wood furniture
f &b shaded white (very pale olive in my living room)
cream rug, cream linen cushions and lampshades, black cast iron fireplace- alcove built in shelves- lots of green leafy plants- huge French doors with white wooden venetian blinds.

we have gold/neutral sofas but an original art deco fireplace which is cream, beige and mocha colours. We have got cream walls (homebase classic cream) and terracotta orange colours for curtains and accents.

what if you went more down amber, gold colours than creams? walls could still be cream but then pick up the more erm luxurious, exotic colours in cushions/throws/curtains/lighting and so on? Chocolate, cream and coffee colours are very good basics but will look very different with oranges, golds, ambers or deep reds.

Ooh some nice ideas and good hint about choosing paint last. I love the idea of eau de nil but not sure it would go.

Anyone else? Keep em coming!
