Would you buy Walnut or Oak living room furniture?

I am about to buy a range of living room furniture. Sideboard, table and tv stand. It's from the Stovby range and is relatively expensive i.e. about 3k for all.

It will hopefully last me years. I am a bit worried oak will date. However I have never had dark furniture before and I feel a bit unsure of it.

Any opinions, thanks

I don't think that oak will date because it is a classic, if anything walnut is more 'in' and is more likely to be seen as out of fashion in a few years. Personally I wouldn't worry about that, go with what you like and what will work best in your home, considering things like size of the room and light.

The furniture is really nice by the way.

Walnut is very fashionable at the moment. I'd go for oak.

For me, the walnut in that range, it looks more expensive, but as has others have said, it would depend on the colour of the floor, the size and how well lit the room is.

I like oak furniture and don't think it will date providing you don't buy anything too 'fashion' and go for classic pieces with clean lines.

I went to see the range today and you're right UsedToBeNDP the walnut looks more expensive.

I think that's what threw me and made wonder if I should go for the darker wood.

This is my first non Ikea pine furniture so my house is geared up to match lighter wood.

I may go for the oak in the white oil finish. So very light as my house is east facing and can be a bit of a cave with not much light.

We've got loads of oak furniture which we've added to over the years. I like it and bought it because of that and that alone.
It also mixes fairly well with other random bits of furniture we have such as an ancient mahogany chest of drawers, some African hardwood chairs and some birch shelves.
I like walnut as a wood but I'd be worried it would be overbearing if there is too much of it in one room.
