dd7 is getting her first bedroom on her own up until now she has shared an decorated bedroom with ds4, dh thinks im being mean because im not letting her have those horrid branded curtains and duvet sets ect, instead i would like to go for a nice pretty room but with room to grow as in she wont grow out of it too soon which i think will happen if we start putting hello kitty everywhere (yuk) im right no?

I think there is room for compromise. I agree with you on curtains as they are more expensive to replace. Duvets on the other hand I would agree to a themed one if it was what she really wanted (maybe as a christmas present?)

I agree hello kitty is shite though!

You are absolutely right!
Those branded housewares with characters on are horrible anyway. None of my kids have ever had them. It is possible to create a bedroom that your child will love, without taking inspiration from bloody telly programmes.

I personally wouldn't want hello Kitty everywhere either - but at the same time it is her room?!

As Ifcats said, compromise is possibly the best option - why do't you get a brochure containing some of the things you like, and allow her to help narrow down the choice from that, then at least she will feel involved with what you put in her room.

You are right.

I would be the same tbh.

My DD loves Hello Kitty. She has a HK rug, which was cheap and cheerful. The rest of her room is red gingham and the Ikea CK Rosalie fabric.

thank you, she has a hello kitty cushion (present from best friend) and a Disney princess duvet already which is fine (im not completely horrid) i just refuse to buy her anymore duvet covers and tat etc, the things i buy her will be plain cream powder pink etc, her room is going to be very pretty lots a sparkly fairy lights flower garlands, nice and soft i do not think dh will quite appreciate it until he see's it. I want it to be a sanctuary for her away from us and the boys (not that were horrid) but we all need a place to go no matter our age.

our girls share a room, curtains are pink gingham (cheap from argos), carpet is hot pink, walls are pale aqua and then their pictures are where they can have character stuff. It works well, they have moved through a few characters in that time just with pictures. They have great kids patterned duvets that they chose but only chose one character one (Tinkerbell) and they have some character toys. We have a few posters from children's magazines (well all disney fairies ones or animal ones) which we have put in some Ikea frames, easy to change when they go off them IMO.

We have 2 boys, 6 and 8. They have blue curtains and a blind with a photo of canary wharf. Some duvet covers are blue but not themed (unless you count the London 2012 ones). The curtains were from our old house! Stay away from hello kitty! Mind you the walls in the boys room are covered in James Bond and Tour de France stuff, at times that is not much better!
