We are about to have our family room decorated, I am just not sure what colours to use. At the mo' it is cream & sludge green. It has been like this for 5-6 years and needs a re-fresh.
At the moment I am swaying between neutral walls, maybe with one slightly darker Taupe colour ( To have a shortening effect) The room is long and thin. 23ft long 11 ft wide.
The room is kind of in two sections, with the back section having TV & 2 sofas, front section chairs & a side table.
My other option was to have a creamy white on the two long walls, and one of the short walls, and have a pale grey on the back wall. I would get pale grey rugs to go on the dark wood floor and pale grey/silver accessories. The curtains are creamy/white as is the furniture. ( Is grey a bit old hat now?) should I stick to taupe/beige colours or go for grey.
I am hopeless at decision making, need to decide this weekend.
Thank you for your help in advance Grin

What about neutral and heathery grey colours? A bit warmer. Don't know if grey is old, but it might be

Heathery is a thought...maybe.......

I am just thinking about it for our front room at the mo and trying to push it down everyone's throat. Grin

I like grey if it is the right shade and I think unless you are going with something really outlandish or heavily patterned then plain colours don't really go in and out of fashion. grey is grey and is timeless.

grey can also look a bit fresher than taupes and creams - when we moved in to our house I felt one of the rooms had an almost sepia feel to it, it was just the wrong shades of creamy yellow and brown. it just looked aged. I love taupes and creams and chocolate colours but I think you tend to need a bit of the darker chocolate colours to make it seem more complete if hat makes sense.
