What colour for curtains?

I have this sofa, beige carpet, three magnolia walls and one in a sort of light brown. It's a rented house so no chance of altering the decor. Any ideas, I'm absolutely rubbish at stuff like this!

Oooh, I love this sort of thing? How big is the room?

I tend to go for neutrals, so would probably pick out the seat colour (or a shade of it) for the curtains and then add brighter colours with pictures or books/lamps etc. I tend to lean towards neutral backgrounds and then brighter accessories

It's 17'3x11'2 so quite big for a new build house, with large double doors into the dining room (12'5x9'4) which has patio doors and a feature wall in the same colour as the living room so the two rooms flow together quite nicely. Ideally I'd like matching curtains for the dining room as well as we usually have the double doors open to make it into one big room.

The curtains we have at the moment are a sort of gold colour, but they don't fit the window particularly well and as a result they look cheap and unpleasant.

Dunelm Mill have some neutral shades here

and also Debenhams here and here

The final pair have got a subtle almost aztec print on them that might tie in well with the cushions on your sofa. I'd go for a warmer colour rather than cool, as the sofa seat cushions are a very warm colour.

I think a mid neutral colour would probably be best. I find in a big window if curtains are too light they could end up looking bland/cold if the wrong shade.

We ended up with gold sofas (they were a cancelled order so really cheap and as they were a neutral shade of sorts we went with them as it meant we got 2 sofas and a chair for the price of 1 sofa) anyway we had no idea what to put with them once they arrived and went with warm cream walls and terracotta patterned curtains. It works because the sofas are plain. I think with patterned cushions though you should try and stick with plain curtains which is why I think they need to be a slightly darker shade than cream/ivory. I would look at different textures too as that can look more interesting than plain flat material but without having a clashing pattern if that makes sense. I like velvety curtains in lounges and halls I must admit, they seem cosy and quite opulent but that might just be me (and we don't have any)

You could go with any neutral shade and be very happy I think. You could always get some sort of decorative or fancy tie back in a darker shade or mixed beads or something to add a bit more interest?

Do you think a light sort of latte colour would work?
