Do these (F&B/LG) colours go together and which white for woodwork?

Hope I can get some opinions!

We have North Facing double reception room (knocked through with a 2.25m opening with architrave)

am trying to embrace the darkness so thinking of F&B Down pipe in the front, more formal room. In the back room (which gets light from kitchen extension but not as much as we'd like) I am thinking of Little Green French Grey. Will they go together? Another option is F&B Cornforth white which I know I love but think it might be too contrasting to Down Pipe?

As advised on here I think I might fork out for the real deal paint as apparantly higher pigment levels are important in north facing rooms?

also need to pick a white for the woodwork (and alcove cabinets/shelves), we want same colour in both rooms. I always use Dulux Diamond eggshell in trade brilliant white but maybe this will be too stark against the dark walls. Maybe F&B strong white?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I would be very cautious using such dark colours. SIL did something similar and I find it very grim. it's bearable at night with good lighting, but on a grey Tuesday morning it nearly sends me over the edge. I am a huge lover of white so I may be the wrong person to judge Grin

Thanks for replying so quickly.

I'm definitely going dark (no talking me out of that one - I find white houses depressing!)

We have a large open kitchen diner onto the garden which is very bright and light and will be our main living space, so the dark rooms are not going to be lived in all day everyday.

I just wondered if the colours complement each other well and also which white to use.

Fair enough! Cooking lunch but if you hang on I'll get my colour charts out.

Oh thank you! I thought you'd have done a runner by now!

Well, I can't find my charts, but going by google images, I think the French Grey looks a bit wishy-washy next to the Downpipe. I think you need something bolder. My favourite of the F&B darks is Brassica, with has a mauve tone. Is it definately grey you want for the second room or would you consider another (dark) colour?

sleepcrisis · 14/06/2013 22:18

I'm not sure we do really. I'd like to create two defined rooms and te down pipe room is definitely goi to be less used and more formal. I hoped to find something more 'easy' for the second room. Will look at brassica, thanks! Will report back.

We have mousesback in our hallway and its a beautiful colour. Looks fab with bright white spindles and doors etc and red accessories.

Might be a warmer colour scheme than grey?

sleepcrisis · 15/06/2013 14:52

Thanks for the ideas.

Brassica, while lovely, is too purple for us I think. I can't see it with our furniture etc. Maybe for a bedroom though...

Mouses back is too brown I think. I do definitely want to go grey...

I'm now thinking LG lead colour instead of French Grey - less of a contrast but more 'every day' than Down Pipe?

I also like warmer grey like Dove Tale but don't think it sits nicely with Down Pipe

Not sure if it's helpful but we did a large s-east facing room in cornforth white and it is such a lovely warm soft grey - very gentle.

We have one room cornforth and the other drawing room blue, with pointing woodwork and ceilings. Hague blue also works really well. The blues are very dark, but add a great intensity which still works well with monochrome (or most anything), if that's what you're after. But, if you're really set on downpipe, which is lovely, it should go fine, too.

I know these colour well as until recently I worked in a stockist and I have used these colours in my home.

I would think that Lead Colour may feel similar to Downpipe although it is lighter and warmer (less blue) I had lots of it in my old house and I always felt it was more like Dark Lead Colour when actually living with it (if that makes sense) but I did have it in some dark places.

I used French Grey in my sons bedroom he wanted Cornforth White but I wanted to use LG. They are very similar although French Grey is warmer and in some lights has a hint of lilac.

LG and F &B have new greys coming out in September if you can be bothered to wait.

Paint & Paper Library have recently brought out some greys on their new chart.

I'm just choosing colours for our reception room and I'm going to go dark either blue or grey.

I'm a bit fed up with grey as its everywhere now, but its also hard to move away from, as I love it with crisp white and its good to use in old and modern houses.
