Anyone know of good eateries between Southampton and Dorchester going west on the A31?

We need somewhere tasty, child friendly and not too far off the route. Have seen there are some Little Chefs but does anyone know of any others?

Thank you!

There are several pubs that you could stop at.

grin · 08/07/2010 21:05

ooh thank you. Any you happen to have visited?

Fraid not - we've tried to go to The Fish Inn at Ringwood but it's been full both times with Hashers but that was poor timing.

There's places like Prezzo in Ringwood too.

I know someone who goes to the Woodman at St Leonards but I cannot vouch for it myself.

That's brilliant, thank you. I'll post back if we manage anywhere.

The Fox and Hounds which is just off a major roundabout, here. Under new management, have heard the food is good and there is a climbing frame thing for children in the garden.

DelGirl · 09/07/2010 06:09

I was going to suggest the Fox and Hounds too

DelGirl · 09/07/2010 06:21

Here is another one, slightly off the A31 but not far www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Wimborne-United-Kingdom/The-Angel-Ferndown/39732917627?ref=search

You are a bloomin useful lot aren't you? Fox and Hounds looks just gorgeous, exactly what we were looking for! I am now quite excited about the long journey ahead of us, if only for the pitstop .

Thank you all v much!

PS I know Southampton to Dorchester isn't a long journey - that's just the portion of it we need to eat in!

I did wonder , have fun. Where is your destination then?

grin · 11/07/2010 12:01

Cornwall. From West Sussex. With two small children. Wish me luck!

Good luck. I won't go to Cornwall from Dorset because it is too far

DelGirl · 11/07/2010 17:19

ot it'll be a breeze grin. I did Cornwall to East Sussex many moons ago. Am soon to be driving from Dorset to Rome via Le Havre, now that is a long journey

grin · 18/07/2010 16:25

Hello, checking in after the event! Firstly thanks so much for the Fox and Hounds, it was ace and I think may become part of the ritual of the journey from now on. V much better than a Little Chef! The journey went surprisingly well both there and back. We've done the journey with our eldest many times (with varying success) but this was wee-est one's maiden voyage. Thankfully all fine. Thanks again for all your help. DelGirl that sure is a long journey, fair play to you! Great destination though, worth the effort!

Great, pleased you liked it and the trip went well .

Delgirl, wow on the trip, hope it goes well, I know you talked about going so I'm guessing you're going for it (I'm the other Delgirl locally, if that makes sense)

DelGirl · 18/07/2010 19:23

Pleased you enjoyed it GRIN, hope you had a good tim ein Cornwall too.

WBN, ciao , long time no speak/see, I take it you are CTP as was? How are things?? Are you still local? x

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 18/07/2010 19:58

Indeed I am the ex CTP! I'm very well thanks, still in the same place, older, with children who seem to grow up whilst I blink, DS is about to be in Year 2. I guess your gorgeous DD is a lot bigger these days too ....

DelGirl · 18/07/2010 20:07

year 2 , how can that be?! What about your dd? DD is bigger yes ,lol. She would be going into year 1 but in Italy she will be taking a small step back for a few months and going to the nursery/pre school for a little while just until she gets used to the language.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 18/07/2010 22:36

I can't believe your DD would be Year 1, how on earth did that happen?! My DD is going into year 7 now, not too long before we hit teenage years at this rate. I'm now officially middle aged with a dog and an allotment.

Really glad you're going for it with Italy, so lovely to see someone going for their dream, good luck to you both and hope to see some updates on here as to how it's going.

Apologies for hijacking your thread Grin.
