I grew up near I would go to Cheddar there. Lot to do caves, cheese you use to be able to watch sweets being made I think there is a toy museum. Wookey is very touristy

Ooh lottie - which school?

Can second the Glastonbury and wells suggestions, also the mendip hills are lovely for short walks. There are massive great iron age hill forts and roman stuff up there, if that's your thing. Rowberrow warren springs to mind. Avoid the 'attractions' at cheddar.

I know that buses run from Brean to Weston Super Mare, Burnham (change for Wells), Highbridge and Bridgwater. You can also get the train from Highbridge to Weston, Bristol, Taunton and then anywhere (Bath is nice too).

TBH if the weather is nice the beach at Brean is OK and if wet, little ones will enjoy the pool and kiddies play areas at Pontin's.

If you can get to it, I really recommend the West Somerset Railway (steam train) from Bishop's Lydeard to Minehead and back again. You used to be able to pay with clubcard points.
