Flying with 2yo

We've booked a holiday this September to Majorca. Our DS is 2 and so he's got his on seat on the flights.

I presumed that he could just use the normal adult seat belts on the plane but have since notice products describing themselves as safety harnesses and stating "The only harness certified and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. Protects your children during landing and turbulence. Quick and easy to install, It eliminates the need to use your car seat on a flight"

Look at this link for one of them.

We aren't hiring a car and so aren't taking a car seat and now I'm wondering if we have to fork out another £80 for one of these harnesses.

I can't get through to the airline at present and was jsut looking for people's fairly recent experiences with 2 year olds on flights and whether they can just use the normal seat belts or need something extra?

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely no need for that. Just use the normal seat belts - ours have always been fine and they've been on many flights.

Were they fairly young when you flew? That's such a relief, the way the product description was written made it sound necessary.

Normal adult seatbelt is absolutely fine!

Doodle - ours have been flying since 4 months each. They went to Australia at 8months (DS) /2years (DD); the Caribbean 3 months later; and regularly fly to Europe. We've never used anything other than the regular seatbelt for a child that age. That product is just another way of baby gear manufacturers getting money out of you!

That's brilliant. Thanks for the responses. It's so hard sometimes to work out what's needed and what's just a marketing ploy! I shall save the eighty quid and spend it on lollypops and wine (obviously not together)!!

no need for it
very interesting though
I have 2 1/2 year old who will not be restrained by the normal belt.
