Has anyone done a santa lapland trip?

Which did you go for and was it worth the money? DSs are 5 and 3. I'm keen to do it whilst they're young. DH would rather just go skiing but the rest of us have never been skiing before and I'm a little concerned about a holiday where we all spend all our time apart!

my friend did. be prepared for how absolutely freezing it is. she said she would never take very young children, her eyelashes froze on the sleigh ride!

its very expensive. not worth it but they had a good time anyway. she said its a once in a lifetime thing. her lad was about 7 i think.

Hmm. Didn't think about that.

Might be back to the drawing board then

im sure that at 5 and 3 they'd love it - magic age to do it im sure. they provide all the winter gear. just be aware that it is really really really cold! ill see if my pal remembers who she did it with. it was just a (long!) day trip i think - but cost the 3 of them about £1000, and thats a good 10 years ago.

moondog · 29/06/2010 23:17

Don't.
Irredeemably naff.
The magic is in the imagination not is some cowboy commercial set-up you shuffle through with al lthe other lemmings (and pay an arm and a leg for).

A friend did Lapland and was there for Christmas Day.

She said it was amazing and her children absolutely loved it.

It was unbelievably cold and cost £££££.

snurk at "done Santa".

Sorry, I really must grow up.

We did it about 4 years ago and it was fantastic. It cost more for a day trip than our usual annual holiday but it was worth it - totally magical. Someone asked me if the boys believed that they'd met the 'real' Father Christmas - I don't know about the DS's but I knew he was the genuine one!

I think we went with Canterbury tours.

ptangyangkipperbang · 29/06/2010 23:24

Forgot to say - I think 3 is too young. The boys were 5 and 7 so still believed but could take advantage of all the activities. They also still remember it which I doubt they would if they'd only been 3.

Thanks everyone. Maybe we'll look at next year if the DCs would be too young. Just don't want to leave it too long and find they no longer believe!

I don't think it is naff Moondog. You get reindeer rides, husky dog sledges, skiddoos, skiing session, sledging, igloos, Northern Lights, private trip to see santa. What's naff about that? If we book now it is £3,300 for all of us for four days full board and so it is reasonably expensive but its a once in a lifetime/childhood trip.
