We are going in September for a long weekend for a friend's 40th.

We'd like somewhere relatively cheap and not in the middle of all the noise but not so far away that we can't sample it

Hi I have the perfect place. A group of friends stayed here for our friends 40th.it was really lovely, fab rooms, fab breakfast, quiet and the pool was OK too. Highly recommend it. Simbad Hotel Talamanca Ibiza. We paid for the seaview rooms.

hotel Simbad is just what I was going to recommend, rooms are basic, but fabulous setting, and far enough away from noise, but close enough to town.
We got married in Ibiza, and lots of our guests stayed here.

whatname · 29/06/2010 12:07

where are your friends staying?

foreverastudent · 29/06/2010 13:04

I've stayed here (4* big, a bit far out) and

here (more basic but more central) recently

but if you give some more details of what you want, as an ex-island worker, I can probably give you some tips

FrazzleRock · 30/06/2010 21:13

Oh my god! I got answers!

Sorry, had given up on this one

will have a look at your links now

Ok, budget is probably not much more than £30 per head per night for three nights.

We're not too bothered about the hotel, as long as it's clean and comfortable, relatively quiet and not full of party animals but also not too far away from all the action. Not in the middle of it either.

foreverastudent - do hotels generally charge per person instead of per room?
I like the look of the 4* one you provided a link for... but, if paying per person, my budget would be similar to Frazzles!!

FrazzleRock · 30/06/2010 21:49

I think they charge per room don't they? So we'd want either twin rooms for about £60 per night or triples for £90 per night
Not sure how many of us there are yet, maybe 6

Hi foreverastudent, can I pick your brains on the island please? Am thinking of possibly going to ibiza and think that an apartment would suit my family of 5 best. Can you suggest one thats not too far from a beach and also has use of a pool? I was thinking of Es cana as a resort, what do you think?

whatname · 01/07/2010 06:44

Frazzle, what area did you want? If sanan, you are probably better in San Antonio bay, bit quieter, more for families. The simbad is perfect for Ibiza town. And the orquidea in Santa eulalia is good if you are over that side. Basic rooms but good position on the beach. Es Cana is the next resort from Santa eulalia, personally I prefer sta eulalia. Es cana is bit more touristy and slightly run down.what is your budget milky?

DelGirl · 01/07/2010 07:20

me and dd stayed here in April
www.ibiza-hotels.com/luxmar/

It was good for the price. Clean and comfortable with a nice pool and bar/restaurant (tho we didn't eat in there so don't know what the food is like)

It's across the road from the beach, close to supermarket etc and about 10 minute walk into Ibiza town. We had a great time. Obviously familes go there but the rooms are set around the pool and they did separate the single revellers, not that there were any noisy ones, from the families.

FrazzleRock · 01/07/2010 08:05

Not sure which area. I thought San Antonio was the noisy, clubbing bit...?

OP posts:
FrazzleRock · 01/07/2010 08:06

The Lux Mar looks nice

San Antonio is the very noisy lively place that gives the whole island a bad name, but there are places around there that could be ok, and you just avoid the west end. but it is full of teens and twenties on the pull! But there are some nice family hotels in San Antonio Bay if you are taking the kids

Personally as a 40 year old, I would head for Ibiza town area, Figueretas isn't far, the Luxmar does look like it would do the trick
But if you are in a different area to to your friends you could end up spending €30a go in a taxi to get to see them. are you all looking to book together and stay in the same place?

DelGirl · 01/07/2010 09:23

Portinax is good for families I think, though I haven't actually been, just what i've heard and Santa Eulalia. I like Puerto San Miguel too, stayed there on my first time to the island years ago. I love Ibiza . I also think there is a resort called cala den bossa which is also nice but I would have to check , it may not even be Ibiza lol.

DelGirl · 01/07/2010 09:23

That was for Milky btw

DelGirl · 01/07/2010 09:25

Yes, Playa den bossa is Ibiza and we went there in April, walked there from Ibiza town . I need to go back to bed lol

FrazzleRock · 01/07/2010 11:14

We'll all be staying in the same place

OP posts:
foreverastudent · 02/07/2010 11:52

Santa Eulalia is probably the best resort for a group of 40 somethings. Or possibly figuretes.

Accommodation wise maybe just book a 'no named accommodation' but in a specific resort?

The cost will depend how many of you are willing to squeeze into each room. 6 people in a 2 bed apt will probably be the cheapest option.

Es Cana is quite small. Apart from the hippy market on Wednesdays (when the resort gets mobbed) there isn't much other than a fairly crowded beach and hotels so I'd recommend hiring a car.

FrazzleRock · 02/07/2010 12:54

Thanks for that, have sent a link of this thread to the birthday girl
