We are going to stay in a cottage in swanage for a week next saturday.

Can anyone give us tips on where to go and what to do with DS and DD (ages 2 and nearly 1)? Hot and cold/ wet weather suggestions please! Thanks.

Steam train to Corfe castle and village.
Beach is great. We got the bus along the coast to a lovely dune beach [can't remeber the name sorry]

The Greyhound Pub is the one on the corner. The steam train is great as is Farmer Palmers, Lulworth Castle, then ther is Monkey World. Studland is a lovely beach. We went to Kimmeridge yesteday whioch was also great, rock pools galore, or you could alos come and see us You cna get the ferru to Bournemouth and do the Ocenarium.

Swannery is great but is an hour by car from Swanage.

My husband and DSs loved the Tank Museum There are a lot of tanks.

Monkey World is also brilliant. (??Wareham)

But the steam train from Swanage to Corfe Castle is definitely the highlight.

Weymouth Sea Life is good and they have an outdoor paddling/fountain area if it is hot.

Went last week to the same area with 18 month old ds. Fab holiday.

Again really recommend steam train from Corfe to Swanage. You can park easily at both ends - the Corfe end has a 'park and ride' area called Norden (I don't think it's the same as Corfe station).

The model village in Corfe quite sweet, and they have some outdoor games in the grounds (over sized chess etc) - obviously not playing but causing havoc at 18 months, but he loved it.

Putlake adventure farm in Langton Metravers was brilliant - adults allowed in soft play area (wearing socks!) - I'm usually not a fan of soft play things but this was a really good one. All very clean and family run. Lots of lamb and goat feeding, little tractors, crazy golf, sand pits etc. Was very quiet when we went.

Pub called Scotts Arms in Kingston has a few little tykes type slides etc in nice garden with lovely views, and food pretty good too.

Kingston Lacey is a NT house with huge grounds and a picnic spot (nice but near the car park) and three playgrounds (although didn't get to them). If you are keen on going into the house there are toys for the children to play with in the attic room. Lovely big lawns and a great cream tea.

Hope you have a great time.

Get the ferry from Studland to Sandbanks and then a boat to Brownsea Island and try to spot a red squirrel!

Blue Pool, Tyneham Vilage, Lulworth Castle and Lulworth Cove, Kingston Maurard animal park and gardens near Dorcehster, Thornecombe Woods near Dorchester.....so much to do - we live in the area and never run out of day trips or tire of it

Not sure how close it is, but we went to diggerland last year with our 3. It was fantastic.

We need to stop bouncing the thread, now, though. We don't want everyone finding out how great Dorset is - let them all drive to Devon and Cornwall and keep Dorset to ourselves...
