Mad really, apparently it'll be 50 celsius but there's no other time we can go. Is there a nice breeze off the Nile?

Good luck. It will be unbearably hot. Do you have to go to Egypt, or are there other destinations where you can holiday?
If there's a breeze you wont notice it i'm afraid.
Dont mean to be negitive, but especially if you've got children they will really struggle in this heat.
A friend went last July, and couldn't move outside the air conditioned hotel because the heat was unbearable. It ruined her holiday!

It is very very hot. So hot that the sweat seems to dry instantly on your skin. I got cramps from lack of salt one day. It would be tough with kids as it is sweltering at night too a nd they would want to be indoors all the time.

No breeze. It's been years since I went (1992) but it was in August. I was a teenage sun-worshipper then so loved being flat out in the sun but we had to take shade at least between 1-3pm, it was scorching.
Any sightseeing you want to do, you will have to get up about 5am so it's done and dusted before midday.
Having said that Luxor is a magical place, the temples, Valley of the Kings etc. shouldn't be missed, plus lots of fun to be had haggling for tat in the bazaar

I've been in late August. Yes, it was very windy... but it is a hot wind, very hot. Like someone following you around with a hairdryer on full blast, top heat setting.

The wind does nothing, absolutely nothing to cool you. It makes you hotter.

I remember DP and I had to sleep
on the beach at Dahab as being in our unairconditioned room was unbearable.

Like everyone says though, it is an unforgettable experience and, without kids, would be fine.

Don't forget Ramadan is in August this year - starts from around 10th August I think

Never been but is suspect a (cool) breeze is a rare event at any time in Egypt.................good luck.

Oh heck Thanks everyone, very helpful. Not taking the dc, they are away with ex-h. Have to say, am not keen, not just the heat but risk of upset tummy etc. But dp has wanted to go for years and he puts up with so much with me and dc, I feel I should acquiesce. On the plus side, looks like you can stay in a fantastic hotel eg Sheraton for a very good price (am looking at a week B&B for £312). I think dp is in for a shock though with the heat, he's never travelled beyond northern Europe.

There are numerous places I'd rather go but all a tad more than £312
